I'd never read 'The Hobbit' again, you know? Its the same with the Twilight books, the first film was a cracking movie and it put teen vampires on the map, but I wouldnt want to plough through Stephanie Meyers dull writing style when I've read some fantastic Anne Rice vamp novels.
The thing with these harry Potter Books, the narrative matures with the protaganists. JKR's writing flows beautifully with incredible wit and imagination that many adults would enjoy too. There is a reason why she is more acclaimed than Stephanie Meyers amongst the adult readers. But I get your stance, everyone has their own flavours. I've read all 3 of those authors you mentioned too and each have their own brilliant style. Regards to the Hobbit, that was a childrens story, one of my favourites. But when I went onto reading Lord of the Rings, I thought WTF, why are these books so big, then when I started reading them I kept thinking WTF, this aint for kids, I'm getting bored, whats all these little numbers at the bottom of the pages for? Appendices? Why the fmuk do I have to keep going there? Lucky I didnt say swear aloud because I was only 12 and would have got seriously smacked. Lord of the Rings was definitely for the older children and adults. I read them again later and appreciated their signicance as the original and definitive fantasy books. But deep down, for me, the Hobbit was the real masterpiece of storytelling. JKR is amongst the greats, purely for the way she writes and I just look forward to anything she writes, even an article on world events. Anything. Dont suppose there is any pursuading you to give those later HP books another stab?
'eck, just wrote a LOONG reply to your post and the computer logged me out and lost it. grr. The jist being that her books start well but theres far less impetus these days to continue the declining quality of the series now its all tied up.
Latez, cheers, sorry, Glassy.
Nevertheless, you can rest assured for now I am def looking forward to the final wizard battle of the series.
