I can assure you it was not meant as an insult - I meant that you are very probably younger than my own children and therefore your taste in music will not be the same as mine. I slept out in the street over night in my young days to get tickets for the Beatles concert in Edinburgh - so that will give you an idea of the gap in our ages!!!thibaud7 wrote:biggins wrote:Yes, Probably my expections were too high and you being a "mere" child and me being over 50 had something to do with it as well!!!thibaud7 wrote:@Biggins: - Quality is highly influenced by expectation
Just went down to the local HMV and b*ght the last (or only) soundtrack for this movie. just wonderful!![]()
not sure whether I should take that child remark as an insult or a compliment...
maybe when I'm older I'll understand.

I was really looking forward to this (and to my John Lewis fix in Kingston) but have had to miss it as the bug I've been fighting off has taken a turn for the worse. Even if I could stop sneezing I think it would have been antisocial to attend. Shall just have to bite the bullet and p*y for it on release.

Re: 500 Days of Summer
Bah. The cinema didn't have the reel so offered to let people see something else. The only film with remotely positive reviews was Inglourious Basterds, and it's too soon to see it again much though I liked it. So I asked for vouchers and got them. Also I got tickets for the 1st this morning for my parents but I think I shall use them for myself now haha, so all in all it worked out pretty nicely. And I think I'll watch Blood Simple tonight instead :)
Top 50 Poster!

I was pleasantly suprised by this as I was expecting some cheesy rom com and didn't have high expectations but it was actually quite a refeshing change from that usual format! I really laughed at the dance scene and the Ikea game they played! (what product placement for Ikea by the way?) I also liked the voice over man! I was struggling to decide if I liked Summer or not though & am still not sure I have decided! I think I would definately recommend it to any friends wanting a lighthearted film to watch at the cinema!

Re: 500 Days of Summer
Still unsure how I feel about this film.
I liked the fact that it didn't follow the normal format for a romcom but it just didn't hit the spot for me. I loved the dance and the ikea scenes but I think the main thing was that I just didn't warm to Summer. Can't really pinpoint why which is frustrating because Zooey acted the role really well.
Only a 5 out of 10 for me!

To quote "a very unremarkable" movie, what was the point? Glad we had a nice nosh at Zizzis afterwards to compensate subsidised by SFF. 2/10 would be stretching it, yes the Ikea bit was ok but it wasn't funny or endearing really was it?
Re: 500 Days of Summer
dubious on this one. started off well and i loved the dance scene. couldnt quite get my head round the little boy from 3rd rock from the sun haveing sex lol.
As for I summmer started off liking her but disliked her in the end. why she couldnt just leave him alone knowing how bad he was taking their split and i nearly choked on my popcorn when i saw the ring. he played it really well as i could feel his heart breaking just looking at his face.
i suppose normally you feel for the girl in these type of movies but this was a role reversal
5/10

I knew I shudda stayed away, bleurgh
Well the poster was right, it certainley wasn't a rom-com given that there was no rom and precious little com.
he got on my wick, like really it's been a hundred an odd days since you were dumped - like, get over it dude,
and she got on my wick - like, he was really into and now he's really sad, so why not twist that knife a little bit more hmmm?
boring film, rubbish characters, for goodness sake, someone please stop me going to these type of films !!!! 3/10
the best bit of my night was seeing betty boop's arse after she sat on a piece of chocolate and it looked like she had poo-poo on her pants, hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahaha !!!!

Re: 500 Days of Summer
First time at Odeon Marble Arch. Not sure that I like it, almost a Panton Street, mark 2. Hold on, scratch that, Marble Arch was at least clean. I just didn't like the screen they put us in. Going to Vue Greenwich today, I do really see some of the major flaws in the older Odeons. You hardly notice latecomers in the Vue as the incline of seats are good, aisles are well placed and the leg room is brilliant - however all those things were lacking on Monday.
I liked the film but I have to agree it was quite unremarkable - however I enjoyed the way this unremarkable story was told. Like others have said it was nice to see the actor from 3rd Rock from the Sun (that was one of my favourite shows at one time). I quite liked the concept of showing how things went by looking at particular days. Voice-over narration was brill! (I like that voice, where have I heard it before??).
Did feel for Tom and wasn't so keen on Summer - especially during her later scenes. I agree with destresserai that it is quite difficult to warm to Summer but I also think we are not necessarily supposed to?? At best I think we might be able to rationally understand her view of things but at the end of the day she was the anti-hero of the story. I think Deschanel plays it fairly well so she is still likeable in some form, some of the time.
After we left the cinema, I said to my friend 'doesn't Zooey Deschanel look like Katy Perry' and she look surprised and replied, 'oh I thought that was who it was!' so it looks like she would have been totally fooled. I'd give it 7/10 as I did find it quite quirky and endearing - and admittedly I think that has a lot to do with the actor who played Tom. Hope to see him in more films soon.

Re: 500 Days of Summer
Just wanted to quote that thibaud7 - it is so true! I know I probably unfairly score some of these films depending on whether they have met my *possibly unrealistic* expectations. I do try to go with none, but if I sneak a look at the trailer then it is potentially over! That is why I loved watching Slumdog Millionaire - had absolutely no expectations, didn't even know what it was about and it was great. Hope to get another experience like that again.thibaud7 wrote:Quality is highly influenced by expectation
