Re: Kill List
I am simply amazed too, 4 stars from the Metro and note all the reviews mention how badly structured the film is! Instead of just saying it's a bad film, they credit it for "bold editing" and I am sure for poor script, bad mumbling dialogue, they use "striking realism".
Re: Kill List
I think it's one of those people pretend to understand to make themselves seem clever. If anyone who really liked it can explain what all of THAT actually meant to them I would be delighted.

Re: Kill List
Yes can someone please give me a review that actually says this film is well structured? Even the 5 star ones say it's a mess.

Re: Kill List
the film definitely has something, a shock effect not unlike what Dusk Till Dawn Does in that if makes you feel like you've started watching a different film halfway through it. Up till then you are thinking, 'oh a movie trying to tell us that conscienseless killers have feelings' and then BAVOOOM it changes direction. I also thought the brooding soundtrack fitted the movie's direction well, although it didnt feel like it at the beginning.
The film is lazily made in places. Theres a partial threat of brilliance in the plot that never really materialises. It felt like someone had stolen the script and notes of a really brilliant director, and then tried to make a film from the bits and peices.
The end in particular freaked me out. Quite a few sick scenes.

Re: Kill List
So I did an opinion/discussion post on my blog about Kill List and I'm kinda surprised it took so long, but I got a nice dose of film critic snobbery in a response today. This guy is one of the reasons I want to publish my views of film. He seems to think that in order to hold a valid opinion, one must have studied film. I detest that critics like him somehow see themselves above the audience that such films are being sold to.
Anyway: here's the post with the comments if anyone wants to have a read: http://londonfilmfanatiq.com/2011/09/04 ... -spoilers/

What a little dick. I've not yet met you sf but I found it rather irritating reading that. In my most patronising voice, I hate to say it but I think he's very judgemental and probably the first in his family to ever get a degree hence the snobbery. And extremely narrow minded too.Tom Pointon wrote: I think you do miss the point because if its a dream, then a dream has its own logic and indeed will ‘not make sense’ in terms of conventional real life logic.
I hate to say it but you seem to wear proudly a lack of academic qualifications in terms of film. You write very well and would sharpen your critical faculties even more if you had some familiarity of the field of Film Studies, which you seem prone to dismiss.
For what it's worth sf, I think your blog is great and your reviews are fantastic. I often use it as a source of deciding whether I want to watch a preview or not and your style of writing is excellent, very analytical and thorough - just how the average cinema-goer likes to read. You reach out to the everyday audience (like myself). And if I remember correctly, your reviews are from "an every-man point of view" which I think you'd find most people appreciate, rather than a review from someone with their little film degree.
KK and David also write excellent film reviews on their blogs which I always have a pleasure reading, I'd be interested to know whether they studied/studying Film at university.

Thanks, a_person. I appreciate the back up. I'm glad it's not just me who read that as quite belittling.

Re: Kill List
You are most welcome but it is only the truth. And no it wasn't, I would think most people would agree that the guys seems to have some high superiority complex. I would have written obscenities on your blog but I don't want to ruin your blog and I thought your response was very well written (although abit too lenient and which tiny tom did not deserve), clearly written from a well educated guy (to a lesser one!).soonforgotten wrote:Thanks, a_person. I would love for him to say all that to your face in my presence. Then we'll see....
