At Odeon Kingston tonight and was a little worried when a couple of kids that can't have been much older than 7 or 8 (possibly younger) sat next to me. They actually were better behaved than the guy sitting a few seats the other side who kept making comments throughout. The kid next to me kept punching the air after the fights and shadow boxing on a couple of occasions (which should have been irritating but was actually quite cute and amusing).
The film itself was good fun. Despite being occasionally corny and sentimental I actually enjoyed this quite a bit. Boxing robots aside it's a story we've seen countless times before and it had a very 80's feel to it (the father/son dynamic was very similar to the Sylvester Stallone arm-wrestling flick Over the Top). The robot action itself was very entertaining and convincingly done and the special effects were very impressive. Hugh Jackman was fine, the kid was okay though occasionally annoying and Evangeline Lily wasn't too bad either.
It's no classic but I had a good time. A solid harmless piece of fun.

I think she was just there really early, sitting nervously all by herself until the others started trickling in. :)

I still enjoyed the boxing robots but the human story that fills in the gaps was even more tedious and schmaltzy on second viewing. It also felt even longer this time around, it would definitely have improved with trimming the middle part of the film.

Hatfield was almost full and there was an usher at the door making sure our phones were turned off before we were allowed into the screen.

Hey jramjee - did you watch this at Surrey Quays tonight - hd82 "watched" it at Greenwich. Explains why you might have thought she was a he.

Lol. Yes I watched it at SQ, but I actually went by the "Daniel" part of her name and assumed she was a he. :winktongue:
