Definitely deserving of the 4 stars! If no one else will stick up for it i will o/ I liked the ambiguity of the character - sometimes I disliked her, sometimes I could empathize with her and sometimes I was worried she was mad but all in all she was a compelling and complex female lead which is nice to see.

Judging from the reviews here, it's a mystery that the average on IMDB is as high as it is, at 7.2. That would have been enough to persuade me to go. Worrying thing is, EL + IC has a lower score and I was hoping to see that, too.

It seems that last night night had brought out the 'night feeders', boy was it noisie in Swansea last night. The staff even came around asking people if they wanted coffee??? I swear that one person brought in one of those giant bags of crisps and was trying to get the one at the bottom!!! The place heaved with the smell of cooked fat, yuck. AND just because OH sat at the back and the seats had high headrests I had to sit on a childs booster seat to see the screen. Why did I bother!!

Nothing could help me like the film less. I tried to see it as a 'personal journey' but just wanted to slap her and direct her to AA, or homebreakers anonymous. Was this sold as a comedy?

Really could not see a redeeming feature in the film. 1/10 for being free

The bit when she pinched the doughnut just reminded me of Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids and how much more charming even the gross things in that were.

Saw this last night in Wandsworth. I thought the film was going tobe a comedy on the lines of "Legally Blonde" after seeing the poster. However it was deeper than that. It showed how time doesn't stand still once you have moved away from your childhood home and that everyone just gets on with their lives. I no longer go back to where I grew up as I have mopved on as have all of my schoolmates. By the end of the film, Mavis (Charlize Theron) had also learned this. She played a beautiful but despicable character who ended up drunk every night. Her quest to get back with her old high school sweetheart started when he innocently sent her a photo of his new-born baby daughter. She thought it was a forgone conclusion that he would leave his wife and daughter to take up with her once more - but then found that he was happy in his new life as husband and father and it was she who had not moved on even though she was making her living as an authopr and living in the big city. It was an above average movie. Ms Theron played her part well, but as an Oscar-winning actress, is really above this sort of film.

Well in that case if Man on a Ledge is getting bad reviews maybe we'll all love it?

Rotten Tomatoes have Young Adult at 81% and Man on a Ledge at 26%

(LOL Haywire has 81% too)

I think the problem is that Charlize Theron’s character is so unlikeable. Juno or Ryan Bingham in Up in the Air were flawed human beings too, but you could root for them nevertheless. Mavis was just an annoying person who had never grown up and believed herself to be just like the characters from the young adult books she writes, with a small dog as an accessory, thinking that she can just breeze into an old flame’s life and take over again. Pathetic really. Not sure she learned anything at the end.
