Re: Free Theatre/Concert Thread
We have a few complimentary tickets available to DITCH - A HighTide & Old Vic co-production Presented in The Old Vic Tunnels for the Matinee TOMORROW Saturday 29th May! Following the sell-out London transfer of Stovepipe in 2009, HighTide transfers Ditch from the HighTide Festival to The Old Vic Tunnels for a limited season. Set in Britain in the near future when much of the country is underwater and the government has been reduced to a group of fascist strongmen, the men patrol the moors for illegals in a rural outpost of the state. As their numbers dwindle, they struggle to retain a semblance of civilisation in the face of the inevitable onset of global war. Stark and imperative, but shot through with a sense of warm humanity, Beth Steel’s debut Ditch is a clear-eyed look at how we might behave when the conveniences of our civilisation are taken away, and a frightening vision of a future that could all too easily be ours. Richard Twyman directs, following his triumphant Royal Shakespeare Company production of Henry IV Part II as part of the RSC Histories Season, which he Associate Directed and which won Olivier Awards for Best Revival, Best Ensemble and Best Costume. Since forming four years ago, HighTide have pioneered a form of theatre that marries new writing with ambitious and strong narratives with the evocative site-specific locations that can realise the dramatic potential of these plays. As a company, the first port-of-call is always to find the space that serves the text most powerfully and immerse the audience within the environment of the play. In February 2010, The Old Vic acquired a lease for a series of subterranean tunnels to create an innovative performance space beneath Waterloo Station. The Old Vic Tunnels will showcase productions, performances and installations in 2010 and will be home to a series of innovative and surprising arts events. Ditch contains some strong language and is recommended for ages 16+.

'Truculent and funny, swaggering and sensitive, Shaw is extraordinary... Must is, in short, a must-see'
**** The Times
In collaboration with the celebrated Clod Ensemble, legendary New York performance artist Peggy Shaw takes the audience on a journey across the landscape of her own body.
Renowned for her own gender bending autobiographical work, she recounts her extraordinary experiences of the medical profession from her current perspective as a 65-year-old lesbian grandmother. MUST weaves together the stories of a lifetime - giving birth on the way to Woodstock, her mother’s electric shock treatment in 1950s America, the loss of a loved one – with projected microscopic images, and live musicians performing a powerful score for piano, double bass and violin.
'Exquisite… This is open-heart surgery of the artistic kind, performed without anaesthetic.'
The Guardian
Supported by a Wellcome Trust People Award.
This project is part of a nine-month UK-wide season of activity about identity from the Wellcome Trust. See theidentityproject.org.uk

Taylor Mac
Tickets available Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd June at 9.30pm
'One of the most exciting theatre artists of our time'
Time Out New York
In a rare UK appearance, the flamboyant and vocally gifted Obie award-winning New York performer returns to Soho Theatre for five nights only.
While praising Taylor Mac for his ukulele-playing and gender-bending performances, over 20 international publications have, of their own volition, described Mac as, ‘Ziggy Stardust meets Tiny Tim’. Being a queen who can take a hint, he has decided to write and perform an original conversation about the comparison, while singing Tiny Tim songs and David Bowie’s entire Ziggy Stardust album. It promises to be a concert unlike any other.
With Lance Horne on piano.
'The brilliant Taylor Mac'
Guardian
'Quite the most distinctive and brilliant performer I've witnessed in ages'
***** Scotsman
'Taylor Mac seduces you, breaks your heart, patches it back up again and sews sequins along the scars'
Irish Times
'A Pierrot figure for the modern age'
Daily Telegraph
Please note that this show has been changed from 'A Theory Queery' as earlier billed.
An award-winning international performance artist, Taylor Mac has performed around the globe, from the Sydney Opera House and San Francisco MOMA to New York’s Public Theatre. Taylor’s most recent play, The Lily’s Revenge, was rated the best play in 2009 by Time Out New York and Paper Magazine, and in the top ten lists of The New Yorker and The New York Post.
