Re: Inglourious Basterds
Just seen this in a full screening in Manchester.
Was really apprehensive as I found Kill Bill great to look at, but indulgent and way too long. It would have made a great single movie.
Anyway not to worry I was gripped from the first wonderful scene. I've read elsewhere that its too talky, but that's what I found so great. Landa especially is a great character and performance.
There's a smattering of violence, but never in an over the top Hostel way. And it's really funny.
Good to have Tarantino back on form.

Heh Heh Classic Tarantino Cheese. What a hoot
Christoph Waltz was superb as Col Landa a truly chilling performance especially in the first scene with the French Farmer !!!!
Hadn't appreciated that old Quentin would play so fast and loose with historical fact but enjoyed this all the same.
9/10
Roll on the Prequels !!!!!!!!

Re: Inglourious Basterds
Odeon Leeds was pretty near full. They had trailers from about 6.15, and no one could find seats, made more difficult as the emergency lighting on one side of the cinema were not working. However, there were a few odd seats - probably no more than 10-12.Spanner wrote:oh and another thing.... the cinema was curiously not that full, i thought this would've been chocka, maybe cos there's another one tomorrow or something. even if this had of been in the smaler screen it still wouldn't have been full up. how well attended were other screenings ????
I loved it! I needed subtitles for Brad Pitt's accent though! I just loved Christoph Waltz's portrayal of Hans Landa - it was pure pantomine! :-)

Re: Inglourious Basterds
gosh what a strange little cinema! I can't beleive there was more than one screen in there. Where I was sitting, on the rigth hadn side, I had a good enough view and the heat didnt' worry me as I'm the other way round. I can't handle sitting in a draught through overactive air con. I'd brought a coat just in case I needed to wrap up but it was ok.ejwrank wrote:We saw this at the dreaded Odeon, Panton Street in London and almost didn't get in. They were checking all IDs to match the ticket printouts and since ours came from a_person (many thanks again), we were told to wait on the side until everyone else got in. In the end all of us waiting did manage to get seats but the cinema (4) was terrible--even worse than usual as the air conditioning unit in the back was making a terrible noise throughout and obviously didn't work properly as it was very hot. And even my son who is pretty tall said he found it very hard to see as the cinema isn't properly tiered. And of course Panton St always smells like a toilet.
Four people around us promptly walked out after about three minutes (it was Tarantino after all so why they were so shocked by the violence makes you wonder if they've ever heard of Tarantino).
We thought the film was very good and there is a surprising amount of comedy and funny lines along with all the action and violence.
I was a bit aprehensive with the violence as I can't handle some types of violence, but with this there was only a copule of times I had to look away and probably when I see it again, now I know what is coming, I'll probably be ok to look at it. I enjoyed the film as a whole, a tad too long for me. Some great performances. I think the SS guy won at Cannes? I could be wrong about that though. 8.5 out of 10 vx

Re: Inglourious Basterds
Saw this last night at Westerhailes in Edinburgh - Thanks again Bettyboop for the tickets
would not have missed this excellent film. Although there were gory bits in it I was surprised at the humour with it.
Only a few seats left dotted around the cinema but WHY does it always say no one allowed in after the film starts yet they still allow them in late when they have obviously wasted time standing in a queue for popcorn etc.
9 out of 10 very good
Nice to meet Marjoreemarjora "in the flesh" and thanks again for the lift - hope you enjoyed your Edinburgh Festival show after the film.

( I can print the extra smilies now!)

Re: Inglourious Basterds
Saw this last nite - thanks to andrews! Loved it! Performances were great and a brilliant mix of comedy, action, thriller all thrown into the loop. I agree, the opening scene with the farmer was fantastic and had me hooked from then. Nearly died laughing at Brad's Italian - brilliant!
Not a seat left in Belfast - thank god - makes me mad when people waste tickets!!
