oh dear large marge, know what you mean but from the other end! i moved abroad (ie. to the uk) and my mum still hates it every day. and she's only in holland!
but the time we do spend together is so much nicer now. we don't argue and we really enjoy each other's company. that's worth something isn't it?
and hey, my (english) boyfriend and i are now thinking about moving to holland so all is not lost!

They say its just for 2 or 3 years but I do worry that if they get really settled there they won't want to come home (he's a Kiwi). I know its great for them that they're going and they're doing the right thing but I can't even think about it without coming over all mumsy and tearful and I really don't want to put a damper on it for them when they're so excited (as well they should be)
How on earth am I going to cope on the day? I'm going to be a blubbering wreck at the airport!

Awwwww.
At least it now gives you a holiday resort and a place to go every year!
I'm sure she will be just fine and in time you will adjust to the change.

large marge wrote:Thanks jmd, like I just told anakin, my parents took me to Australia when I was 4 & I grew up there so I've also been on the other side. But I only realise now how hard it was for my granny (mum's mum) to see us go. She never saw us again for 9 years. At least we could probably manage a bit more often than that. (I hope)

You, at least, have technology. Have you considered setting up a webcam so you can see each other for a weekly chat?

Sorry everyone for the delay - my PCs motherboard is down & I can only go online while at work (which I shouldn't really!)
I hope to get SKYPE set up soon (will need my son's help with that) so should be able to have conversations as soon as they get online.

Yeah Skype is great. I just potter around the house with it on and talk to my mum with my wireless headset
She sees me flitting in and out of the screen. Just like being there!
Agreed anakin, it seems to have got really cold all of a sudden!
