Yes thats what I am trying to say obviously not eloquently enough...
People don't live near theatres so sure they go watch it in the cinema, but it's not a substitute for the real thing.

Kaybeelon wrote:Watching a filmed play on the screen can never be a substitute for the real thing! Theatre is written for the stage and does not work the same way on the screen.
Also, watching a play in the theatre is a totally different activity.
And ... in the theatre you do your own editing. You choose whether you want to watch one actor the whole time, or not, and are not at the mercy of the film director/editor who choose for you.

Apart from the fact that if you have to p*y it is usually easier to find a cheap cinema ticket than a theatre ticket. :star:

some people might not be sure about going to the theater so going to one of these might change their mind. i would rather go to a show but am happy to get to see it this way for the time being because i couldn't afford tickets.

There's some tickets at the Royal Opera House for £12.50 with a decent view, which is cheaper than some Odeon tickets

We certainly get the best comedy first at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival but the chances of something like Frankenstein with the same two lead actors as they have currently doing the rounds of provincial theatre is slim, so the cinema option is certainly ideal for me as much as I enjoy the theatre I'd not have made a journey to London to see it specially.

the city is mental when the Festivals are on - it's so busy and loads of street performers everywhere, it's a real party atmosphere.

The Fringe is what most people think of as the Festival and that's generally all the comedy acts. the Festival proper is more classical music, opera etc, but there's something for everyone.

It used to be great a few years ago when tickets were £5 a show so if it was terrible you could leave without feeling bad or done but it's got really expensive of late with it costing upwards of £12 to see even an amateur show. I've seen some great acts over the years, Paul Merton is always good! Loads of diverse stuff, stuff that then goes on nationwide tour and stuff you'd only see at the Fringe. Some friends of mine wrote an opera version of Star Wars and performed that a few years ago - anything goes really!!

the town is full of celebs too. Two years ago Russell Brand was staying in a flat opposite my old work so we spent lots of time peering out the windows and doing very little work that week!

Well worth a week's holiday in August but it's not cheap!

Sounds very exciting.
Can you book tickets beforehand? Or is that more expensive?
How easy is it to find accommodation? :star:
