I am planning on writing the Christmas cards today. And I am going shopping tomorrow. We actually do get a "Christmas Shopping Leave" day every December from work. I am not making this up. You have to take it before 24th.

I must admit I don't like writing Christmas cards so if you want some more, Beate, I'll send you mine. I would be very grateful!
Also, a Christmas shopping day is great as it does tend to focus the mind, knowing you have a day off and shops are much quieter than at weekends. I always made the most of that day!

Thanks, but I have devised an ingenious plan: if I run out of cards or stamps, that's it for the rest of my list. They just won't get a card, or maybe an electronic one, if I am in the mood. And I am currently trying to peel unstamped stamps off envelopes I received myself. A true Scrooge.

I've decided that next year I'm going to get a stamp made with OH and my sign off so that I can just stamp them all. Anyone else want one? :)

I once tried putting my Christmas cards through computer printer to put my message and signature!
It took a bit of setting up to get it in the right place but it did work as long as cards from same box.

Sorry to tell you Beate but you can't do that as although the stamps have not been franked when you peel them off the envelope it breaks a seal on the back of the stamp. If you look carefully on a stamp you will see on the bottom part what looks like two paper clip marks these are the seals that I am talking about.
How I know this is because a friend stuck a stamp on a letter to a client but it was upside down so he quickly peeled it off and put it back on the correct way. The client phoned him and complained that they had to go and collect the letter and were charged £1 plus the price of the stamp and told that the scanner picks up used stamps and this is the "fine". So your friends could be charged for any you send this way.

BUT if you carefully cut the stamp off the envelope with the back still on and glue it back on an envelope the seal will still be intact.

I have discovered that this is much easier anyway so this is what I am doing, LOL.

A Very Merry Christmas to all our servicemen and women - wherever they are this Christmas. We should count ourselves lucky that we will spend Christmas period with our loved ones.
