Re: The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
I saw this film thanks to a_person.
I loved this film. The opening credits were good and i loved the homage to the original cartoon characters. The story was good and on the whole there was a lot as well. Captain Haddock/ Andy Serkis was brilliant in this. The animation was amazing too. I was surprised by the amount of guns in a kids film.
I was a bit sad when the film ended. I felt like I had been transported back to my child hood during the film.
Loved the lead up to another sequel at the end.
8.5/10

Re: The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
i was bored before the film even started as there was just soo many adverts which was not a good start
and by the time the film started it felt like just a normal tin tin episode which they just made into a film not really any good plot and was just a bit unnecessary 3/10

I was surprised what a lack of response there seemed to be throughout, to be honest.

Re: The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
Grr sorry I am a bit late with my comments, had some chores to do before I come on here.
great to see Beate & OH, PXC, MariaLionza, Canadian_Turtle. Thanks Weirdy for saving us seats and was good to meet your father and friend, and a_person, thanks for sorting me out :)
First thing first, awesome jazzy opening credits which reminded me a little of Catch me If You Can opening credits (another Spielberg/John Williams collab). John Williams is getting old so I treasure every new soundtrack material he composes and this one was another refreshing addition to his legendary portfolio.
What a visual feast this was. Incredibly stunning to look at, with amazing camera sweeps and epic vistas. The characters were incredibly life like and very expressive. Whatever problems people have with dead eyes, were largely eliminated here. Its still there but very minimal. What a treat.
But best of all, this was a vintage spielberg adventure. Not his best in that respect, far from it in fact but its still a rollicking roller coaster ride. My only gripe is, there was a tad too much action set pieces and I felt a little disspointed with the drawn out ending. Bit of an anti climax to be honest. But I loved the characters, especially the dunken Scottish captain. Snowy was awesome and Tintin was more dynamic than I thought he would be. In fact he was a bona fide Indiana Jones style action hero.
I know everyone is saying the 3d didnt look so dark this time round but that's because with animated movies the colour palletes are more vibrant so the film is more watchable than the live action ones. Plus animated movies are easily processed properly in 3D. So yes the 3D was decent, unneccessary but decent. The let that fool any of you into thinking the cinema projectionist has improved their brightness level. They absolutely havent.
Ok, sorry I am only now going to read everyone else's posts :/

You should have been sitting where I was. The woman next to me was in hysterics throughout. And she went "AWWWW!" whenever Snowy was on screen. Actually she went "AWWWWW!" even during the 'koala hugging the toilet-roll' ad. FFS!soonforgotten wrote:All I heard in the O2 were crickets.

I should have just posted "I agree with SF" but excellent review, I'm always enjoying your write ups.soonforgotten wrote:So after the crap at Clapham PH when I finally get to the O2 I get 30 f**king minutes of adverts? Are you shitting me? So very unhappy about that. Since I'm in a complainy mood I'll be sending of a letter to Cineworld customer service (did I say letter? WTF? I meant email) stating how absurd it is to expect people to sit through so much crap prior to the film beginning.
Anyway, as for Tintin... holy crap. How bloody incredible did that look? The story was nothing to write home about, but the visuals... sweet Jesus.

Hopefully that won't take you to my Contagion write-up.
