It's Tom Hardy on the phone in a car for 90 minutes, you must already know if you're the type of viewer who wants to see what kind of mileage they get out of it or if you require more of a story than that, Locke himself wouldn't even tell people this happened.

I think that's why reactions are split and the movie isn't strong enough to change pre-existing tastes.
Well no, actually, D-Fens, because had I known whether this set-up appealed to me, I wouldn't have been wavering, would I? But in any case, I did go to see this yesterday and am relieved, if slightly surprised, to emerge not really inclining to either extreme. I quite enjoyed it and certainly didn't feel it was a waste of my time or boring, but it was already SO familiar, from posts here, that it held no surprises and was more or less exactly as I expected. As a result I find it hard to rate, because I suspect the most emphatic views have come from those who knew little or nothing in advance - though I could be wrong. I did think the various characters who were only heard were very well and convincingly played, though I did find myself trying to guess the identities of the actors concerned. Overall I think this deserves a respectable 7.5/10.

I don't really understand your perspective, your main points seem to be that you were wavering but also that you knew exactly what to expect?

Have to disagree with you D-Fens. I also had no idea if I was the type of viewer who would want to see this or not. I went, I saw and I thought the film was great. But I wouldn't be so presumptuous to think others would think the same. I don't think it is down to pre-existing tastes. "We Are the Best" was a film I tended to think I would not like. Had I not gone I would have missed something good. So it's lucky I didn't know quite what type of viewer I am!

Actually I think D-Fens made a valid point. If you are the kind of person who hates horror film, then you know not to watch them.

Similarly, if you are an action film kind of person then Locke is never going to appeal.

However, if you know you can sit and enjoy a character driven film, then give it a go.

I see no reason why anyone would canvas opinion on whether they watch a film or not.

Either watch it or don't watch it. Reading other people's opinions before watching then saying this might have skewed their opinion of the film is just a stupid thing to do imo

Well I guess it would be just how much people's opinions are valued -- but I don't think saying that that it's a stupid thing to let others' opinions have an effect is particularly kind or helpful.

But Ms Thrifty saying that the film was so familiar after reading every comment in this thread, is a stupid thing to do imo

As for valuing an opinion of a film, even those with similar tastes in film will have differing opinions at times as will those who often have totally different tastes and opinions will sometimes find they will suddenly agree.

We aren't children on here (or at least most aren't) be a grown up and make your own decisions.

I really don't see why a grown adult would need to be told what to think, I really don't.

What you think and what you write here don't have to be phrased exactly as you did. Yes, we aren't children and of course can make our own decisions. But saying that something is a 'stupid thing to do imo' isn't necessary.

Sorry but that's what I think and I'd like FMUK to remain a friendly place.

You all have some good points.

Its very healthy to express our views and even constructive counter arguments with others.

It is equally important to do so with a respectful tone and not use terms such as "stupid" in referencing (direct or indirect) to the person you are counter arguing with.

Lets chill, be respectful and do the hippie thang...love each other, dudes and dudesses.

Now as for me, I dont agree with any of you because I am even weirder than you guys! (did I just indirectly call you all weird? tut, no respect have I ;) ). I dont even watch trailers. I only skim film threads to see who liked it from reading first sentences and only from respectful members I enjoy reading because I like to be surprised from scene one rather than know what the story is even going to be about. I dont read reviews either before I see a film but what I do sometimes, is just get a general gist of its synopsis but only if I am unsure of seeing a film. And I tell you what, I have so benefited from doing so. Even rubbish films are better films for it. So I know exactly what Ms Thrifty means in her first post on this page.

I rarely watch trailers or read much about some sorts of films. My reason for watching it was mainly Tom hardy, and going in, I had all sorts of plots going through my head, right up till the end
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks
