Re: FMUKCON 2015 - Edinburgh
Yay, just booked my train... So that's everything booked for me now, accommodation (staying in North Berwick) and train.
I booked a return ticket for just £51 via thetrainline.com...that's bloody cheap I thought but knowing you lot, you'll probably find a lot cheaper! Of course flying is probably cheaper but I have to take train because I am carrying large telescopes which I cant board a plane with. I am happy with that price and piece of mind to have it all booked early. I am extending my stay to 4 nights, so making it a proper holiday retreat out of this.
So just to remind everyone, I will be hosting a stargazing tour session with my telescopes in the scenic coastline setting of North Berwick on the Friday evening which is just a half hour train ride from Edinburgh. For those who would like to join me much earlier in the day we'll also visit a few lovely attractions in the region. So everything I planned in this previous post still stands:

My goodness you're quick off the mark. I keep on checking and the cheapest fares from Manchester ie £29 are for the last weekend in January - I will have to keep my eyes peeled for the good dealsTheyCallMeMrGlass wrote:Yay, just booked my train... Re: FMUKCON 2015 - Edinburgh
I'm leaving 9am on Thursday. The £24 special deals on East Coast applied to all off peak times. So there were a lot of options. I just checked the Manchester trains but you're right, they are not bookable beyond January for the same line! I wonder why they made London trains available and not some other cities?Diane65 wrote:My goodness you're quick off the mark. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=28846&start=40#p345856What time are you arriving at? The cheap ones going out are either at 6.14am or 7.45am. Although I get up early I'm thinking of the later one so it's easier to get to the train station using public transport.
The deals are still on for Londoners btw but it does say limited availability:
http://tickets.eastcoast.co.uk
There are a lot of times throughout the day to choose from. I didnt see any cheap prices for the weekend (sat/sun) itself though, Just weekdays but that was fine for me because I am arriving on Thursday and leaving Monday.
It does feel good to have all the booking out of the way, early :) But still so looong to wait!

Re: FMUKCON 2015 - Edinburgh
This is annoying, Tickets from Leeds or York are only available up to 6th feb and yet the same train service can be booked from London to the end of april. Why???

Re: FMUKCON 2015 - Edinburgh
I've just been invited away for this very weekend with some girls from work (obviously I would never cancel this as it is a prior commitment (a cardinal sin in my book) and I'm really looking forward to it) but it made me laugh as they are going to Edinburgh for the weekend travelling down on the Friday until the Sunday evening. We might end up with some Gatecrashers!!
