Celini wrote:just back from the screening at Odeon Camden. Absolutely loved the movie and couldn't stopped crying at the begining (dont know what is wrong with me!).

I think they had technical issues on screen 5, so they transfered us to screen 1... big screen but then the room was only 10-15% full.

Oh what a shame, I couldn't get into Camden and had to traipse all the way up to Muswell Hill. :x

I too really loved and enjoyed the film, and my OH liked it to and that is saying something! It was sad, funny (audience laughed out loud moments), and entertaining, although I thought the family was too good to be true, but it was based on a real story...so that is heartwarming.

I enjoyed this film, it set out to do what it was supposed to do and did it right. It told a true, heart-warming story and it did it well. I like Sandra Bullock and thought she did as good a job as she could in this film but I'm not sure she should have won the Oscar. She didn't have to dig as deep as Gabby Sidibe in Precious. I haven't seen An Education yet but Carey Mulligan looks like she pulled off an amazing performance too. That is not a criticism of Bullock, I think she can pull-off an Oscar winning turn, or the film, which is at the mercy of the true story. 7.5/10

Saw this yesterday morning. Sandra Bullock was a revelation. Totally believable in the role. The great thing about the movie is that it didn't go over the top in the schmaltz department. It isn't really even a sports movie. It's a simple tale about triumph over adversity and the strength of the human spirit.

I hope that this movie does well. It must seem like a tough market to break this in the UK judging by the amount of screenings taking place. Maybe it should be pushed as a human interest story instead of a movie about American Football. It would draw a different type of audience. The kind that would encourage their friends to see it and not the teen audience who would be moving onto the next movie a week later.

And well done, Sandra on your Academy Award.

Hey, where are all the posts from those who saw this last night? Anyway, thanks to the generosity of fellow members, not only did I have a pair of tickets for myself but enough to enable two pairs of colleagues to go, too - thank you! The actual date seemed to have been so long coming (and the release is still way off) that the film had a lot to live up to but it didn't disappoint, though didn't exceed my expectations either. I agree that it helped that the schmaltz was minimised and Sandra Bullock impressed me - nice to see her branching out (slightly) from rom-coms/comedy thrillers - but the whole cast was good. I am left wondering, with all these screenings, who will be left to p*y to see the film when it eventually opens, but to those who haven't yet seen it and have a chance, I'd say give it a go.

Saw this yesterday evening at MK - what a great feel good film - it's not the sort of film I would have gone to see as it had a sports theme to it but we really enjoyed watching it - the whole cast was great - Sandra Bullock did look strange as a blonde though !!!

I thought it should have been a 'made for TV' movie. For me it had the same feeling - All American family take in poor boy and live happy ever after. A Wednesday at 2.45pm ITV4 slot.

A little unbelievable. However, I suppose I'm more used to watching the dysfunctional family drama.

Well acted by SB though but hardly an oscar winning performance. [In my opinion]

You are aware that it's a true story right?

Yes it's cheesy, yes it's too sweet, but I think everyone left the cinema feeling great and life affirming. I think Sandra Bullock just about deserved the Oscar, but it's a weak year I think and I do agree some of it has to do with the politics and morals of the film (as someone pointed out to make the American christian white middle class feel good about themselves- perhaps?)
I enjoyed watching the film, I am bravely giving it an overly high 8/10
I too had an issue with someone eating in front of me last night in the Shaftsbury Cineworld cinema. I love chinese food, but pleaseee not in the cinema....
