Haha! Yinster, I can't believe we were in HK at the same time! What are the chances of that?? ;)

We stayed in Wanchai, and just ate our way round there! Most days we were meeting up with OH's family or spending time with friends. We have done all the sightseeing bits many times, but it still is great to go up to Victoria Peak, and look round Central and Soho, and other hidden places we have not been too, one of them is Wanchai Park, an oasis of calm in the midst of such busyness. We also went to the HK International Wine and Spirits Fair as my sister in law helped run the event and gave us free tickets, so we enjoyed ourselves trying out all the wines and spirits! After a week in HK, mostly eating (so much choice) we went off to Taiwan and did a tour of the northern parts, went to Taipei (101 Taipei - second tallest building in the world), Tamsui, Taichung, Sun Moon Lake, Haulien (Taroko National Park), Yilan and Jiaoxi for the hot springs! Then to Macau for a couple of nights before returning to HK to meet up with more friends, went to Shatin Jockey Club, and more eating, it seems to be everyone's favourite pastime! Also chilled out with lots of massages - two hours for about £20, with oil and hot towels. Bliss!

I shall be making a trip down to London on Friday 4th January for the weekend. I wonder if any of my friends are available to meet up on Saturday 5th, in the morning, until about 3pm? Maybe someone could come up with a meeting place and then we could move on for a bite to eat. Look forward to catching up with you all again, and maybe meeting some new Fmukers. Let me know if you'll be around :D

What sort of things do you like doing or do you like a bit of everything?

I'm assuming that you have seen all the main touristy sites but if not a walk down The Mall is just wonderful I'm always amazed by the history of every building along the way. St Pauls is so pretty inside so well worth a visit.
Shopping wise I love Portobello Road/ Notting Hill and Camden market (and locks) you really feel like your part of the community there and they are both buzzing. My favourite large store is Liberty as it is just so British and the building is so beautiful - I like to visit places that you don't get at home.

I love http://www.maxwells.co.uk in Covent Garden - I tend to go there for a pre theatre meal (they have really good deals on and the service is excellent but you may need to book) and there are always street performers around Covent Garden which adds to the atmosphere.

If you fancy a bit of time out of the city Greenwich is just beautiful - you feel like you are on your holiday when you go there just take the walk under the Thames and you will come out to the view of the Cutty Sark, there are quite a few free museums around there and you can take a gentle stroll up to the http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... 4169,d.d2k and the view across London is amazing.

Hope you have a brilliant time and don't forget that there are always lost of free theatre tickets available on this site.
I'm assuming that as you posted at 4am you are into the club scene/ night life etc I'm sure that the London FMUKers will fill you in on that side of things.

#957 Post by chelle1973 » Thu Dec 27, 2012 1:11 pm
