Just got back from New York and already making return trip plans. What a swell place! Though US customs was nightmarish and the Homeland Security seemed to be having a competition with each other to see who could be the most obnoxious to the tourists. That aside I think I could happily live there; The Village Voice were doing free screenings for Stoker; how cool is that?

Welcome back, eumenides. Very glad to hear you enjoyed your visit in spite of below par pancakes and over zealous security and customs. It can happen the other way as I remember coming back to the UK from Paris and being asked for the piece of paper from the Home Office that granted me, a foreigner, the right to remain in the UK that had been issued about 25 years previously! But I still had it -- surprise all round!

Just back from a wonderful 11 days in South Africa. Great 4 days in Cape Town and then toured the Garden Route. What a beautiful country. Felt completely safe and would highly recommend it.
Now looking forward to 27 Feb when I go to New York for 4 nights for my partner's 50th birthday.

Thanks ejwrank, it's good to be back as I was having fmuk withdrawal. I am so impressed you kept that 25 year old document ! Were they suitably sheepish after you brought it out with a flourish? Customs were also very keen on body searches (I had 3 of these) Perhaps I have an air of criminality about me...

No, too scared of norovirus. But I know some people who sailed there and had a lovely time. Are you thinking about booking one?

Yes. Actually just today we finally got round to booking a 3 night stay in Orlando, then a week Caribbean Cruise and then another 4 night stay back in Orlando.

It has been a very long week dealing with this. OH has been emailing a Virgin rep who has been the cheapest with this kinda of deal. Cheaper by a long run. We could had done it ourselves but as it our first cruise we wanted a safety net which we wouldn't have got if we did it ourselves. Delays, etc which Virgin will. Long story short. After missing out cabins either changing prices or simply sold. I think OH was going to cry as the price kept rising and rising and losing out on sold cabins. We have got a larger cabin for £1 cheaper per person for the entire holiday for the week we wanted with 4*star hotel stay, room only with all private transfers. Also we get Virgin's rockstar treatment (whatever that means)

So now looking for advice on park tickets in Orlando as they can be expensive and which ones we definitely have to go to. Just remember im a big Jessie so dont like big rides. Hotel is doubletree by Hilton so there is complimentary transfers to parks. Any good cheap restaurants, diners etc as we are room only
