The Descendants

I don't think there is a thread for this yet.

The film is getting some very positive buzz on twitter.

It's certainly getting some RT buzz

But yeah I've already seen the word "Oscar" mentioned a few times both in response to the movie and Clooney.

I think there's a thread somewhere unless we were talking about it under the LFF thread

Can't say I was impressed. Clooney plays his role well, but the material, it seems to flop between melodrama and light comic drama in a way that seems fruitless, and when coupled with a series of characters who just come off as annoying, appears to waste the viewer's time.

As a massive fan of Payne's previous work, and Sideways stands up as one of my all time favourites, my first exposure to him on the big screen was lacklustre to say the least.
Very much of the same ilk as a lot of small indie features of late, with nothing original or entertaining to add, it seems like a waste of space, which is really sad.
I found it odd to see Judy Greer and Matthew Lillard pop up in non-comedic roles, as does Rob Huebel, who disappears mid-movie, like a lot of things set up early on. Just, forgotten I guess.

Well shot with a nice soundtrack and great acting, but the material, the script falls flat far too often.
4/10

Also, Clooney, he's cool. Super cool.

I was prepared to be very patient with this film given Alexander Payne's meandering style of directing. Alot of people will probably find the film a drag and slow.
I thought it was half decent, especially when the "twist" is revealed early on in the film. The themes of lost, forgiveness and acceptance are nicely touched upon. Episodically interesting 7/10

EthanRunt pretty much summarized what I thought... I'll be more positive though and give it a 6/10!
(almost fell asleep 20 minutes before the end!)

I was disappointed by the lack of Q&A after the gala screening; but I understand that you guys (press) had an earlier screening today?!

Glad you made it there Celini. I thought it was a really good film - very, very funny but moving as well when the husband said goodbye to his wife.

I think they did at the 8.30pm screening of 50/50 last week... but I may be wrong!

@tarantinoed: we were sitting few rows behind you (T24 and T25), Turtle yelled your name, but nobody turned back :(
