The Railway Man
There was a fairly low-key premiere of this tonight but they did have a red carpet and the cast came along.
The film is based on the true story of Eric Lomax and his experience on the Burma Railway during WWII and his widow Patti (played by Nicole Kidman in the film) came up on stage as well. The story is interesting and the film was good to look at both in the UK and Far East but it was difficult to get very engaged with Eric.
We didn't think that Jeremy Irvine looked much like a young Colin Firth either until they showed pictures of young and old Eric at the end and the two actors were identical with him.

I can't wait to see this. Love Colin Firth and big soft spot for Jeremy Irvine. I stood outside the premiere for a second as I walked by hoping to catch a glimpse, but I think I missed them.

Re: The Railway Man
If I got the book I could make a start, so thanks for the info, tilly.
I would love to see the film and a kind fairy booked me tix for Sunday, but yet again in this benighted neck of the woods (only half an hour from London, but you wouldn't think so sometimes), we have NO trains that day, so it's just not feasible. Hoping for some more dates between now and the release, and at least that allows time to read the book!

The book was great and unbelievably moving. I hope the film can do it justice. Bit disappointed to see the trailer following the current modern trend of revealing pretty much the outcome of the story though!

Re: The Railway Man
Such a sad story shown in a most excellent way. Colin Firth was fantastic once again! Rate: 10/10
