What We Do In The Shadows
What We Do In The Shadows
I vaguely remember the movie being quirky and sporadically amusing. I remember liking very much the lead performances and, in particular, the wimpy werewolves. I distinctly remember staying to the very end.
Apart from that, I cannot recall anything about the film at all.

Re: What We Do In The Shadows
What kind of rubbish was this? A pretend serious documentary about the trials and tribulations of male vampires in a flatshare in present-day New Zealand - of course, an obvious topic. With Rhys Darby as the "alpha male" Werewolf leader and one vampire with a really cringeworthy German accent. Figures.
This was mildly amusing about three times before it got seriously tedious. PXC next to me had a well-deserved rest.

I'm not really a fan of the mockumentry. This was mildly amusing at times and I'm sure it will appeal to some but not for me.
Quirky idea and nice to see something a little different.

Can't you be a little more generous to a pleasant little indie film, made on a shoestring, with the actors-directors-producers putting their careers and life savings on the line to entertain you?Beate wrote:What kind of rubbish was this? There's more to movie life than blockbusters - thankfully.

Nope, sorry. I am entitled to my opinion just as you are to yours.umral wrote:Can't you be a little more generous to a pleasant little indie film, made on a shoestring, with the actors-directors-producers putting their careers and life savings on the line to entertain you?Beate wrote:What kind of rubbish was this? Don't be so defensive. At least, read the article I linked to before responding.Beate wrote: Nope, sorry. I am entitled to my opinion just as you are to yours.

Re: What We Do In The Shadows
I am not defensive. I am simply not going to change my mind about a film on the basis of how much someone has put into it. I didn't enjoy the film and that's all there is to it for me.
Re: What We Do In The Shadows
Last time I looked, this was a Film Discussion forum. With the greatest respect, saying (and I paraphrase) "I didn't enjoy it" "I was bored" and "my opinion is as good as yours" contributes precisely zero to the discussion.Beate wrote:I am not defensive. These guys are exponentially braver than me - and I suspect, you - in doing what they do, and they deserve a little more respect for clearly putting heart (and soul!) into such projects. Please recognise the difference between a half million dollar movie and a 200 million dollar one, and judge accordingly.
I thought the last ten seconds contained an absolutely brilliant line. Do you agree? And did you stay right to the end of the titles, and hence understand the (weak) joke in my first post?

Re: What We Do In The Shadows
It is a film discussion forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion which are all valid. We all don't like the same things nor would I want everyone to have the same opinion. That would make a very boring world. In the same way you enjoyed this film, Beate didn't and has posted so. If this was a blockbuster and Beate still didn't like it you won't be pushing it as much.umral wrote: Last time I looked, this was a Film Discussion forum. I haven't seen What We Do In The Shadows so know little of it. However I do know it was an independent New Zealand film. Would I go and see it if given the chance? Perhaps as I have seen some surprises in the years. But you strongly encouraging someone who has given their personal view makes me gone off the film.
In the words of a huge Disney blockbuster "Let It Go"

Re: What We Do In The Shadows
Well I thought it was pretty funny and was laughing most of the way through. Out of the 2 films I saw this week, this was the one I preferred maybe I'd rather see it as a series on the TV like Extras, but for the short running time of 87 mins, it was fine for me 6/10
