Not Receiving Email Alerts

Yes again someone had to kindly message me to tell me there had been a post on free films.

What do you think you're achieving by letting us know for the thousandth time that the email notifications don't work for you? We know. We tried an upgrade that might have solved the problem but unfortunately it failed. We're trying, OK, so give it a rest please.

I think to be fair it's some time since any official word was posted that you're aware the issue is ongoing and you're continuing to work on a solution.

I've been thinking, I could implement the 50 (or 25) posts+ restriction on email notifications.

The only trouble is I don't know if you're not receiving emails because of the host-implemented cap or because the board thinks you haven't read a particular post.

I'll do some digging around, but if it's the latter we'd need to somehow reset the whole notification system.

I have installed an app on my phone called Web Alert (Website Monitor). Its very simple to use and allows you to check a tiny part of any web page for changes. I've set mine to check the main page for any changes to the number of posts in free films every 10 minutes. Sorted. Never more than 10 minutes from an alert and i'm not even logged in.

NB. You need to set it to check the index page NOT the free films page. You don't want alerts every time someone VIEWS a FF post? or do you?

Bear in mind, wouldn't this also trigger when threads are moved to Expired Stuff?

Anyway, sorry about the notification not coming through. Hopefully a one-off. I think I've found a way to force the board to send notifications regardless of whether the user has (or is considered to have) viewed the subscribed topics/forums. But that would add a lot to the amount of emails we send out, inevitably hit the cap pretty quick. Maybe it could be done in conjunction with the 50/25+ posts thing.

True, but its a small price to p*y to get FF alerts and such pruning is rare anyway.

Would it be possible to set it to look for changes in the "Last Post" field? Avoiding the "Today" part if possible, but the hh:mm or the username of the last poster?

It works by checking elements. "Today, 09:47" is a single element.
However after the name is an arrow pointing to a page icon which is white when read, and orange when unread. Selecting that should only alert for unread messages.

This only works if you are logged in.
