Not Receiving Email Alerts

Just a heads up. There's a server-wide issue with outgoing emails, so if you don't receive alerts yesterday or today (and usually do) that'll be why.

Edit: Should be back to normal now.

I've just posted on one of the boards and received a reply but no e-mail alert (even though I checked the box to receive a notification).

is there a general issue ?

Keep an eye out if it gets delivered late.

Just to be clear, you checked the box to get an email for subscribed topics?

Yes, started getting them now - Seems there is a delay of a few hours after someone replies - Is this normal ?

Yes, there are unfortunately issues with the email notifications. You can see on the Test thread in this board that we have been recording the amount of time given notifications have taken.

Right now I'm looking into the solution set out here:

Very informative article. I didn't know you could get SMTP settings from your own hosts, or even through gmail, but I've run a test and successfully sent an email from phpbb through the latter.

I want to set up a dedicated gmail account before switching over and seeing how we do, and because of the annoyance that is Google's insistence on sending a verification text to a new phone number I'll have to wait a couple of days for a new SIM to arrive, but I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

Just wondering - Is the issue something your host can resolve ? - I run dedicated servers and should be something easily fixed ? - I've run phpBB forums before and not encountered such a delay ?

The host has an outbound email limit of 500 per hour which may be contributing to the problem. They won't budge on that.

I'll post when I've set up the gmail SMTP.

Ah, I understand. If it is sending out so many e-mails they must be getting queued up. I set my own limits as I run a dedicated server so don't have that issue.

Hopefully the gmail SMTP will sort out the problem :)

Two pm's today, no emails at all.
Settings checked ok.
