Re: What We Do In The Shadows

Last time I looked, this was a Film Discussion forum. With the greatest respect, saying (and I paraphrase) "I didn't enjoy it" "I was bored" and "my opinion is as good as yours" contributes precisely zero to the discussion. It is a film discussion forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion ...

Re: What We Do In The Shadows

I am not defensive. I am simply not going to change my mind about a film on the basis of how much someone has put into it. I didn't enjoy the film and that's all there is to it for me. Last time I looked, this was a Film Discussion forum. With the greatest respect, saying (and I paraphrase) "I didn ...

Don't be so defensive. At least, read the article I linked to before responding.

Re: What We Do In The Shadows

What kind of rubbish was this? A pretend serious documentary about the trials and tribulations of male vampires in a flatshare in present-day New Zealand - of course, an obvious topic. With Rhys Darby as the "alpha male" Werewolf leader and one vampire with a really cringeworthy German accent ...

What We Do In The Shadows

I vaguely remember the movie being quirky and sporadically amusing. I remember liking very much the lead performances and, in particular, the wimpy werewolves. I distinctly remember staying to the very end.

Apart from that, I cannot recall anything about the film at all.

Re: The Imitation Game

Saw this yesterday in Wimbledon. A poignant film where Alan Turing, a socially inept genius (brilliantly played by Benedict Cumberbatch) cracked the dreaded Enigma encryption code. He befriended Joan Clarke (equally gift but more socially astute) played by an unusually good Keira Knightly, who ...

Re: The Imitation Game

Super-glossy treatment of the Turing story, directed with what’s becoming trademark efficiency by Morten (“Headhunters”) Tyldum. Thoroughly absorbing performance from Humperdinck Bandersnatch. With Keira Knightley - as usual - completely out of her depth, this week’s best supporting actor award goes ...

Re: Nightcrawler

Meet Lou. He’s a great guy: highly motivated, goal-driven, career-oriented. He doesn’t like people much ... but nobody’s perfect.

A movie that proves conclusively that small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy.

Re: The Re-write

Starts slowly, and winds down from there. There are some chuckles, otherwise everything you might expect. Halfway through, it has nowhere left to go. This is not a movie that adds diversity to the Huge Rant oeuvre. From the first scenes it’s let down by its casual, irritating retro sexism: all the s ...

Re: The Maze Runner

The denouement was very reminiscent of ‘The Cabin in the Woods’. As often, a little more spent on the script and a little less on the SFX would have worked wonders.

Mindless entertainment, lacking the crucial element of mystery.
