Saw this at a nearly full Whiteleys. Let's be honest, the film and premise is a load of codswallop but strangely watchable. On the plus side, if there's ever a Carrie remake, we've got ourselves a new Sissy Spacek. Not just in looks but also the same qualities. Also, a great turn by Tom Hollander as the gay nightclub owner come mercenary. Pity we didn't see him more. Must be his first major movie role?

He was in Pride and Prejudice (also by Joe Wright) which made it seem more like a collection of actors from his previous films together.

I was at Whitely's too. I really enjoyed it and I had quite a few 'on the edge of my seat' moments. It was very well done and shot beautifully with lots of odd things some great one take sequences. Tom Hollander was suitably creepy. I've actuallly met him in a queue for a film at Whitely's 8O made a geek of myself by asking him about his sitcom Rev.
Its best not to dwell on the whys and wherefores of the film, just go with it and enjoy. I'm not a fan of Th Chemical Brothers but the soundtrack was great and really fit the film. Only iffy thing for me was Cate Blancett's wandering accent. 8/10

Watched this at a very full Trafford Centre. Really enjoyed the film quite intense in parts with much needed light comedy relief from the family. Should have been a 15. 9/10
Tom Hollander was creepy, how can you be scared of a man in a lemon track suit?
(Still trying to guess who you are akh93)

Whiteleys was very full and started slightly late. Thankfully got an aisle seat this time so had room to stretch my legs out.

Well, Matt Turner wasn't right. This is basically a load of old rubbish. The story didn't make sense from start to finish and was never really explained. How did they get from the Antarctic to Morocco in double quick time, and why Morocco anyway? The hippie family was totally displaced in this (are we meant to believe they survived this bloodbath?). I think we got it after a while - the kid can beat up adults. Wow. And this is a 12A? What were they thinking? I should have gone to Chicago Code, that can't have been any worse. It wasn't gripping, it wasn't funny, it wasn't good. There were a lot of good actors simply wasted. And gripe number 1: the horribly fake heavy German accents. Are we meant to believe that a scientist like Erik never worked abroad and thus never had time to lose his accent? I certainly don't sound like that. FFS, if you want Germans in a film, let them be played by Germans. The only authentic German was the grandmother, and she had like, what - three sentences? I don't even know what accent Cate Blanchett was attempting. Whatever it was, it didn't work, love.

Total waste of time. 4/10

saw this at richmond tonight it was packed so much so people couldn't get in :s it was advertised as being at the odeon on hill street but when i got there was told it was at the studio in the tiny little screens. i mean tiny!

nice to see jeancomp and to meet kaybeelon too!!

they started the film at about 6 with 5 people in the room and then stopped it. then when they started it again at 6.30 it had no sound so restarted it again!

i liked this film, it was very odd in some ways but i did like that. i can't beleive it's a 12a though, that's shocking, i wouldn't take a 12 year old to see it let alone anyone younger!!

i also LOVED the music throughout and could have kicked myself for not realising or knowing it was the awesome Chemical Brothers!! I'm going to get the soundtrack for this.

There was some stunning shots in this film too really lovely cinematography. There were some gaping holes in the story but I'm quite good at just going with it, suspension of disbelief and everything, you know.

I found the english family, the girl in particular, hilarious, i really liked the juxtaposition of the two girls together.

I was expecting a little more from Cate though, not sure what it was, but I wanted to know more about the character and never got it, that's not her fault mind you so maybe i'm being a bit harsh.

Over all i enjoyed the film and give it a 7.5/10

Saw this at Whiteley's, there were a few things that niggled me but all in all, totally unexpected and I enjoyed it and like valda says quite a few edge of the seat moments, and moments that startled me! Great action thriller, with humour like "the three bullets", beautiful scenery, and a coming of age theme too where she is let loose on the world, and it is seen through her eyes, and the sense of wonder she has seeing things for the first time. 8/10

Edit: Just read your well written review kk. Exactly what I thought, but you say it so much better, again. o/
