Claim free tickets to The Telegraph's St. Kitts Rum-Tasting event in London
The Rum-Tasting Event will take place on the evening of Friday May 20, 2011 at The Telegraph's offices in central London.
A lush verdant island, St Kitts remains a naturally unspoilt and uncrowded destination that is a true gem in the Caribbean. While its spectacular landscape includes such ecological wonders as Mount Liamuiga and a flourishing rainforest, it’s historical and cultural heritage has left a wealth of island experiences centred on a legacy of sugar-cane and rum production.
With such a unique heritage, St. Kitts was once known as a sugar island for its wealth of sugar plantations and rum, its by-product, is now woven in to the heart of Caribbean life, served straight or as cocktails, at every beach bar and restaurant, at events and festivals and on island tours. Many beach bars will also have their very own rum signature cocktail or rum punch in varying strengths.
Giving an insight in to this fascinating story of rum is Rum aficionado, Ian Burrell, who will take readers through an amazing evening of rum tasting and history. Four exclusive St. Kitts rums for the tasting will include the exotic flavours of Brinley Gold, still blended on the island, and the popular smooth Belmont Estate Rum with each rum’s distinct characteristic and colour be it light or gold, dark spiced, explained in full detail.
At the event, representatives from the St. Kitts Tourism Authority and British Airways will be on hand to answer any questions about visiting St. Kitts.

A master “Edu-tainer”, he educates and entertains while delivering rum and rum cocktail seminars & rum education programmes to a growing cocktail culture. On Tuesday 31 May, Giraffe will stage an ice-cream giveaway at the Belsize Park and South Bank restaurants. Kids will have five minutes to decorate an ice cream sundae, and ice cream inspectors will judge the winner.
The competition will take place at 3.30pm and 4.15pm (two sessions) on 31 May, and is open to children aged between two and 10. The winner from each session will receive a family meal for four. After the judging, the kids can tuck into their frozen creations. Free ice cream will also be available for children who are too shy to take part.
What’s more, all participants will have a photo of their sundae posted on Giraffe’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/girafferestaurants, and the child whose creation is most ‘liked’ by the public can look forward to a year’s supply of ice cream
