yeah i do. i still hate walking. i don't mind walking on a treadmill in a gym where everyone else around me is also sweaty and horrible and there's a toilet nearby because i've drank 10 litres of water trying to stay hydrated. i am a fickle creature i think!

Aruif go for it, if you want to do it, think how good you will feel aftwerwards. If you convert 5k into miles it is only actually 3 miles which sounds less and really isn't that far to walk, if you go out for a day shopping (in my case window shopping) at a big shopping centre you probably don't walk far off this.

My children's school is 0.47 miles walking distance away according to the coucil website and it takes us about 10 minutes to do this virtually half a mile journey each day.....most of the time they cycle and I am walking at a speedy pace behind, they have asked me not to ride my bike as I will apparently embarrass  them as no other mummy's ride bikes to school.....didn't think the embarrassing parents lark started til they hit secondary school. 8O
Preferred Cinema's now Paignton or Exeter!

So any of you walked or jogged a little to see Win Win yesterday...anyone?

Well I ran from Peckham to Fulham Broadway to see it. That's just over 10km. It was a nice run too along the Thames river. Not a my fastest run, it was a little leisurely but I still did it in 1hr 11mins. In rush hour time it would have taken maybe 45mins or more if I took the bus and tubes so not a lot of time difference there and healthier too. You would be surprised too if you walk it from a to b, how small the time difference really is if you took a bus or drove. If you dont believe me. Here's the proof of my run ;) I had my runkeeper on

http://runkeeper.com/user/RunTejRun/activity/35838947

There, and if you join me on the runkeeper, we can motivate each other :) you just need any Android phone (HTC, Samsung Galaxy etx) or an Iphone. Runkeeper is free.

So I got to the cinema at 6pm. Then they told me, they had technical problems so the film wont start until 8pm...aaarrghhh. But I was given a cinema voucher and after having a meal and spending time in HMV, I still watched the preview :)

Thats a good point you make about the time difference being minimal however Edinburgh is very hilly.

I'd like to try a lillle light jogging and when i am walking very fast i do feel like jogging is the next step
but a little bit worried on the impact on my knees and hips. They are very creaky and often feel like they could pop and my hip joints are weak, once my daughter and i were horsing around and she kept pushing me from my hips, the next again day i had weakness, it felt like they kept popping out of place and i felt very weak to the point i couldn't stand up. This wasn't prolonged but was worrying.

Can't afford to spend a lot of cash on proper running shoes either.

Creaky bones, HAS? May I suggest you have this checked up on by your GP. You may need some strengthening exercises. Maybe Diane can offer some advise here. Do you have enough calcium in your diet too? Please make sure you do, its a crucial mineral for your bones. Good sources are obviously milk but also broccoli and cabbage.

But do the brisk walks, thats great, well done for doing them...and on hills too which are actually good for strengthening legs. You dont have to jog to progress, the hills are actually a good progression. Another progression would be to add weights to your feet, never tried them myself but it is an appoved exercise.

that is expensive Rawr 8O, especially for a student. Pure gyms has just opened up down the road from me for only 12.99 per month and that includes classes.

I'm going to try taking the stairs more often Mr Glass. My company has just opened up a meeting space/I T suite on the second floor so instead of taking the lift i'll take the stairs. I have seen the GP about my knees but not my hips and he sent me to the physio. I've stopped crossing my legs which has helped but i didn't think the squats he showed me were helping any so stopped them. I've got back into yoga recently which has helped my flexibility but i have to bend my knees for a lot of the postures. I have been eating a lots of spinach, rocket and watercress but dairy doesn't agree with me.

Need to get regular with the walking but the weather up here has been so windy and rainy so not encouraged me, however off to the great outdoors and taking my walking shoes (incidently very heavy) with me. Can't wait to get a bit of really fresh country air :D .

Mate that is a rip off. I p*y £60 for a membership which enables me to go to any FF gym world wide. I would have thought a membership, student membership outside of London would be a lot cheaper. its so annoying that you can't get a straight answer as to how much it costs. How much can they get you for more like it
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks
