Oh wow there certainly are! I was just wondering since I am going by myself to this one (when booking it said there was only 1 ticket left for tonight) and was hoping to perhaps see any other FMUK-ers :) Have fun at the book slam!

(sorry for the double post)

I just got asked about Prisoner of Windsor which made me remember there are more showings, so my short review below:

The theatre was hidden and took me a while to find (it's right next door to the Prince Charles cinema which is in a side street of Leicester Sq). It looked really tiny and lowered my expectations but when you get in the room it is actually far bigger than expected. Sadly it was only filled up about 15% (the cast deserved more than that!) which made me wonder why I was only able to book 1 ticket through SFF as the rest was supposedly gone....

The play tells the story leading up to the Royal Wedding (from the Royal family to the gardeners that are involved in the preparations) and is very funny. Ie:
The Queen is played by a guy (who's actually really good!), Wills develops a stutter because he's nervous so the Royal Family hires Geoffrey Rush to help him as he helped Colin Firth in the King's Speech and there are classic cases of the Prince and the Pauper and Cyrano de Bergerac.
Overall I had a great time. It wasn't amazing the entire time but I really enjoyed it and there were hilarious moments (especially in the second half). And since it was only the third preview it's bound to get better along the way as well. 7/10

thank you for the review, canadian_turtle. I'm going to see this tonight. Tbh, I was afraid that it might be very bad, so it's a relief to know that you enjoyed it.

I went to see Pockets Dream at Udderbelly recently, which is Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream condensed into 1 hour and aimed at a younger audience. Midsummer night's dream was never one of my favourite plays and I found the storyline hard to follow and condensing it to a quickfire 1 hour play hardly makes it easier to understand. Yes there's physical theatre, yes the kids are dragged on stage, but whether there's a greater appreciation of the story or not especially with the younger ones, I doubt very much. 3.5/10

I saw The Prisoner of Windsor tonight and I think it was a poor attempt at satire. There were a few laugh out loud moments (especially the balcony scene) but most of the material was unfunny. The script was very weak and lacked any comedic spark. I pretty much switched off half way through. The modern film references were a nice touch, particularly the King's Speech, Pirates of the Caribbean, LOTR.

The theatre was very nice though! It's quite unassuming from the outside but once you get downstairs, it is a cosy intimate theatre with comfy seats and lots of leg room.
