National Vegetarian Week (NVW), sponsored by Cauldron Foods, is the UK’s annual awareness-raising campaign promoting inspirational vegetarian food and the benefits of a meat-free lifestyle.

Created by the Vegetarian Society and celebrated since 1992, the Week gives organisations, schools, community groups and individuals the free promotional tools and inspiration to give vegetarianism a go while highlighting their activities to the public through the popular What’s Happening page.

Here’s how you can join in:

Check out the Get involved and order resources page to download our Inspirational Ideas and order your free promotional resources.

Once you know how you will take part in the Week, head to the What’s Happening page to add whatever you’re doing and share it with the public. Whether you’re promoting your business, asking others to attend something you’re organising or just alerting the public to how you’re highlighting great veggie food for NVW, it’s a great tool.

Explore the rest of the site - check out the recipes, interact with us on Facebook and Twitter and if you’re an individual going veggie for the Week, or you're celebrating the Week in some other way, sign our Veggie Pledge.

Get your DIY on this Saturday 4th June at London’s Design Museum as our friends at Jotta in collaboration with Intel present a series of interactive workshops. You’ve just missed the first one and now second up is DIY FX - film tricks of the trade and creative effects for film, turning DIY into digital.
Fancy yourself a filmmaker? This is your chance to learn how to create your own film effects, with a do-it-yourself slant using only everyday materials and a phone camera at your disposal. The workshop is inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s classic film ‘Anemic Cinema’ where a whirling animated drawings present a mind-bending filmic experience. Re-create your own at home with skills learnt at the DIY FX workshop, including the likes of kaleidoscopic colour and lighting, high-speed velocity movement and some tricks of the trade like faking bizarre perspectives. The afternoon entails learning by practice and crafting and then implementing these effects yourself.

So, if you think you’re the next Werner Herzog or David Lynch, get your skates on as the DIY FX workshop is free, but as places are limited, be sure to RSVP quick to rsvp@jotta.com

Now that the excitement of the Royal Wedding is but a memory, Regent Street is looking forward to its own celebratory occasion, as 'A Taste of Spain' return 6th consecutive year, on Sunday 5 June 2011.

Showcasing the very best of Britain’s favorite holiday destination, the free Spanish extravaganza takes place from 12 noon until 7pm, set to include activities from many of the Spanish regions - food, sports, entertainment, music and more.

Spanish regions from as far north as Aragón to Andalucía in the south will participate and bring their special flavours and traditions into town. Valencia, famous for its ‘City of Arts and Sciences,’ will be showcasing its unique combination of city and beach. Visitors can take a glance at what the vibrant capital of Madrid has to offer, get a burst of sunshine from the sun drenched island of Gran Canaria or culture vultures can find out about Segovia’s rich heritage.

The normally busy Regent Street will be traffic free for the day allowing visitors to sample giant paella from Valencia, watch traditional Spanish dancing on the main stage, the dancing horses from the Balearic Islands and visit the exhibiting regions along the famous street.

Sports will also play an important part of Regent Street – A Taste of Spain featuring Basket Ball, Motorsports, Gold, Tennis and Football. .
Interactive sports challenges combined with a Hall of Spain dedicated to sports will also pop up on the curve.

Visitors will be able to pick up sports 'passports', allowing them to travel to each sport zone and get a podium moment picture to put in the passport - how very Lewis Hamilton. Indeed, there will even be a pit-stop challenge!

Everyone can enjoy a fun family-friendly party with activities for the little ones, great giveaways, sampling and the chance to win prizes. Even the shops get into the spirit of the day offering exclusive discounts and in store events and promotions.

Come and celebrate the start of summer at the Ricard Pétanque Garden Party
Chelsea Physic Garden
Saturday 18th June

On the 19th of June 2010, French and English hipsters alike donned their panamas and Ray-Bans to play at Ricard’s* annual Pétanque Tournament, take in the sun, and enjoy a glass of their favourite pastis as they kicked back on the grass. After the success of last year’s Ricard Pétanque Garden Party which saw over 800 of London’s Bright young things pitch up to show off their boules skills, one of London’s most beautiful private gardens is throwing open its doors once more.

For one day only on Saturday 18thJune, The Chelsea Physic Gardens will be transformed into Ricard’s 1920s “Joie de Vivre Garden”. French Chic and English vintage kitsch will combine for a day of sun and fun. Come in your garden-party vintage finest and pick up your panama at the door before heading to the Ricard bar for the barmen to mix you up a drink: from “Perroquets” to “Ricard French Mojitos” you will be sure to find your perfect summer cocktail!

Giant Garden Chess, croquet, treasure hunts, a delicious gourmet BBQ and, of course, the Ricard Pétanque tournament: London in the summer doesn’t get better than this!

This year, Benoit Viellefon (www.benoitandhisorchestra.com) will be keeping the revellers entertained. The “French Crooner a la mode vintage” will be stopping by on his way to the Glastonbury Festival with his orchestra made up of internationally renowned musicians from France, Great Britain and Jamaica. With his rhythmic gypsy blues music described as a cross between Django Reinhardt and Jimi Hendrix, you certainly won’t be standing still much!

Are you a pétanque novice? Worry not: the Lost and Found Dandies will be driving their pétanque bus over from Shoreditch to coach, entertain and amuse you throughout the day with tips, games and performances!

And when you have thrown as many boules as you can manage and danced, played and eaten all you can: pick your perfect picnic spot, and grab your Lillet** Picnic rug and a glass of your favourite aperitif, while you sit back and enjoy the sun!

Petanque Tournament:

Die-hard and amateur pétanque players alike are invited to come and compete in the 2011 Ricard Pétanque Tournament. Teams of three can register any time from 11.00am on the day. Boules will start flying at 11am. So bring your team mates, and your competitive spirit, because the winning team of this year’s Ricard Pétanque Tournament will also get to walk away with three pairs of Eurostar premiere tickets! Runners-up won’t leave empty handed either, with two year-long memberships to the stunning Chelsea Physic Garden to be won.

And for those of you who fancy a slightly more easy going game, there will also be some have-a-go pitches dotted around the garden for you to enjoy a relaxed game of pétanque.

For more information and photos from last year’s fantastic day at the Chelsea Physic Garden, check out the Ricard Garden Party Facebook Page.
