It is a bit confusing, although a page on the same website does say open mic 6-7 followed by the film.

That's what imdb says too. There are a few hugely differing reviews on there, but all in all it gets a rating of 7.2 or something.

A feuding double act try to make it in the cut-throat world of stand-up comedy.

Director: Ben Miller
Stars: Noel Clarke, Johnny Harris and Ralph Brown

The overwhelming feeling of tonight was boredom. The only thing that was huge was my disappointment. Disappointment about SFF ticket users being given second-class "stalls only" tickets while a lot of the upstairs seating of course remained stubbornly empty. Disappointment with the failing of the air condition which made the temperature unbearable and a 78 minute film seem double that length. Disappointment about the two females to my left who talked all through the film. Disappointment in the stand up acts that raised about 3 laughs from me. Only the chubby guy with the double-barrelled name was really good, and I originally liked the middle-class girl with the Ancient History degree until she started getting really smutty. Honestly, is this a rule in stand-up comedy - the smuttier the better?

Then we had Ben Miller on stage for 5 minutes, his co-author plus Thandie Newton and the two main actors for 1 minute. They weren't even allowed to say anything, they just stood around awkwardly.

The film - amazing. Amazing how a collaboration of so many comedians could have produced something so astoundingly unfunny. Yes, I get it, it's more about the friendship of those two guys than the big gags, but hey, it's a story about stand-up comedians, at least make it a bit funny? Just a bit? Instead we get Noel Clarke in a wig and later in a chicken costume, Johnny Harris with puppy-dog eyes, Zoe from Eastenders in a role that went nowhere, various cameos from other comedians, and Thandie Newton, who's incidentally pronounced Tandie and not Sandie as I always assumed, playing a cocaine-sniffing air-head for all of 5 minutes. Story: not found.

Knock Knock. Who's there? No one. Exactly.

4/10

I echo Beate! Totally bored! There was not one ounce of fun in this film. Beate you are too generous with your marks. From me, 2/10 - only because I thought the stand ups at the beginning were a whole lot better than the film, and a good idea to get sympathy for the film, if that was what they were trying to do, but I am afraid none for the film!

This was boring and pointless. 1/10 for only wasting 80 minutes (even though it felt far longer).

The desperation to sell this to an audience really annoys me. Thandie Newton gets one of the top billings even though she's in it for about 5 minutes. Take a look at this poster-

Image

That red circle says featuring and lists a bunch of big name British comedians- Eddie Izzard, Jack Dee, Jo Brand, etc who are, yes technically, in the film but contribute nothing beyond being in the background. It's shameless that they should try to make this a selling point. It's pathetic. I'm surprised they didn't squeeze Simon Pegg on there just because they mentioned his name.

Just a Huge waste of time.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

I am suprised that Tamsin Egerton didn't make it on the poster, in her huge 2 minute role as the chicken's girlfriend, LOL. In fact, why not bill the yellow fish? He was far more entertaining than most people in this film. Seriously.
