Went to MK Odeon tonight, and Cinema 65% full...I enjoyed the film and for a change no swearing. Not a great deal of Chemistry between Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. I would give it 7/10

I agree with most of what has been said, plodding story, one dimensional characters, etc BUT I enjoyed it. Hanks and Roberts are stars and they ooze class and charm and to see them even in first gear is still just about worth the effort.

In fact just for the scene when Tom is dancing/celebrating outside Julia's apartment, which had me laughing out loud, it was worth the entry fee!

Don't rush out and see it, but if you're a fan of these two it's
one to catch on Dvd or a dreary Sunday afternoon.

I saw this film last night at a packed MetroCentre, and can't agree more with the comments of most of our members. It was dull. Julia Roberts was the wrong choice for Tom Hanks. Like Kaybeelon, I was worried immediately when the opening credits came up - A Tom Hanks Film - written by, starring in, directed by.
Kaybeelon wrote:The fact that Tom Hanks wrote the script, directed, produced AND acted in the film should have made me suspicious. I think even Orson Welles only attempted 3 out of these 4. The whole film felt a bit like the fantasy of a teenage boy (sorry teenage boys!) ... fancying Julia Roberts and dreaming of being with her ... Perhaps Tom Hanks was that (middle aged) teenage boy once and the only way to get to kiss Julia Roberts was to write a script, make the film and act in it ...?
Perhaps someone can tell me whether Tom has written any other film scripts, or directed anything else. I know he was involved in making the TV series The Pacific, but don't know exactly what his role was.

He was just an executive producer on that (although he did direct an episode of Band of Brothers) but he did write and direct 'That Thing You Do!' about a 60's band with Tom Everett Scott and Liv Tyler back in the 90's.

Did anyone see meeeee? Cos I sure as hell didnt see anyone...... you wasnt wearing your badges :shifty:

Was at the relatively packed O2 and got seated around 6.20 and by the time the film actually started 20 odd minutes later, I was ready to fall asleep.

Whilst this wasnt the worst film I've seen..... it definitely wasnt the best. It reminded me of a Sunday afternoon film slobbing out on the sofa and only watching it because its easy and you really couldnt be bothered to find anything else.

Upon watching the opening titles I saw that Tom Hanks had a great deal to do with this film.... star, director, writer etc etc. Both my boyf and I thought that Tom Hanks time seems to be over..... I'm afraid that he'll never do another film as good as Big, Castaway or Forest Gump again. But hey he may prove us wrong.

The best bit of the film for me was when Julia Roberts was a tad on the drunk side......

I think you can sum up the film by saying that it was inoffensive and easily forgettable.

I thought this was totally naff. In fact, "naff" was created for things like this film. What universe does this take place in? A scooter gang which recruits middle-aged men from the local community college? A gang which comes into his house and gives it a make-over? This was just bad, bad, bad. It was an inconsistent series of scenes more than a movie, really. It felt awkward for the duration. I felt embarrassed for Larry (or possibly Tom) almost every time he turned up in those ridiculous clothes or saw that bloody stupid chain. Plus that doorstep celebration, ugh. There's nothing particularly bad about the performances as such, but there's nothing special about them either. Hanks and Roberts are so far into their comfort zones here that they may as well have filmed their scenes laying in sun-loungers sipping Pina Coladas. George Takei provides the only real source of amusement here and even then it's hit and miss.

Larry Crowne is truly the antithesis of "inspired". I think it can safely be said that Ben Affleck > Tom Hanks. 4/10 and I really need to see a good film soon.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.
