An alternative title to Quiddities might have been Lake Greifen, after the Robert Walser story. The narrator swims in a small hidden lake. What will such a swim be like when the lake is dark and the sky full of stars? William Gass wrote 'The story says no more (the story is over), but we can guess the rest. Commissioned by the Britten Sinfonia, and played by them in this concert.

Two Boys
World Premiere of Nico Muhly's new opera with a libretto by Craig Lucas.

A teenage boy is stabbed. An older boy is caught on CCTV leaving the scene. An open-and-shut case, it would seem. But, as Detective Inspector Anne Strawson investigates the older boy's story, she uncovers a bizarre nexus of chatroom meetings, mysterious internet identities, supposed spy rings and disturbing cybersex, leading to a stunning conclusion.

Loosely inspired by actual events that occured in an English industrial city, Nico Muhly's new opera is a cautionary tale of the dark side of the internet.

With a libretto by Craig Lucas, screenwriter of Prelude to a Kiss and Reckless and video design by Fifty Nine Productions, whose work has been a key feature of such recent ENO triumphs as Doctor Atomic and Satyagraha, this new co-production with the Metropolitan Opera, New York, is directed by Tony Award-winner Bartlett Sher, making his UK opera debut.

Some elements of this production may be unsuitable for those under 18 years of age.

Clare Teal is one of the most successful Female British jazz singers in decades with a string of albums behind her, including the UK National Top 20 hit "Don't Talk".

Alongside her music, Clare has a successful career in broadcasting, presenting Clare Teal, Sunday night at 10pm and Big Band Special, Monday night at 11pm for Radio 2.

Accompanying Clare is the Laurie Holloway Trio. There are very few British jazz musicians who have become household names, however Laurie Holloway’s work as a pianist, composer, music director and arranger has led to him becoming something of a national treasure.

Born of Egyptian and Lebanese decent, NEeMA’s presence on and off stage is as powerful and charismatic as her voice is honest. Her debut album ‘Masi Cho’ released in 2006, received critical success and led to her touring Canada, Ireland, Australia, UK and the US. Her follow up second album ‘Watching You Think’ released last year is a collection of twelve musical stories that seamlessly meld elements of world music, folk and jazz with a good measure of pop.
