Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
It is funny. I'm afraid that on occasion I have tried to glimpse the amount on fellow theatregoers tickets. I also remember being amused in the Old Vic when in the row in front of me multiple £20 notes were being handed over in a group to p*y the person who booked. Needless to say I had pa*d nothing for my equally good seat.ejwrank wrote:phatz wrote:Yep its so true and understandable but yet a little funny on some levels lol

There is a valid and serious point here though of course. The theatres give these tickets away to improve the atmosphere, increase bar and programme sales etc. but if we annoy the p*ying customers or they think we are going to put them off p*ying full price then they are likely to stop doing so.
Perhaps we will have to develop our own language!

Some theatres use the airline principle of charging more as the run goes on. Certainly Soho Theatre and the Young Vic do this. But though off-West-End they are fairly well-known. Don't know if this would work for fringe or mainstream theatres - they seem to do OK with reduced-price previews and charging slightly less for matinees and some evenings throughout any run.

They checked IDs thoroughly I'm afraid.thedude wrote:No iTunes tickets for me either this time, but then I wasn't too fussed about any of the acts this year. Maybe if anyone goes to Paul Simon on the first night, they can report back on the ID situation.
Also, someone asked what time you should get there, this is what happened last night:
They said doors open at 6.30, shows starts at 8. And it did on the dot, they even had a countdown 1 minute before the start. My friend and I arrived at 6.45, joined the VERY long queue and finally got in around 7.15. The queue that had appeared behind us was enormous and I heard 30 mins into the show from someone else that there was still a queue outside of people waiting to get in! So it is recommendable to actually get there before 7 if you want to ensure you get in on time and get a decent spot (floor is is standing, second level is seats)

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
We went about 7.30 and nearly left due to the length of the queue but we are so glad that we joined it even though we didn't get in until 8.20 and the queue behind us was just as long as when we joined it...... no ID checks for our ticket maybe because there were so many waiting - someone said that they had had some trouble with the doors? Paul Simon played for over 2 hours and it was goodcanadian_turtle wrote:They checked IDs thoroughly I'm afraid.thedude wrote:No iTunes tickets for me either this time, but then I wasn't too fussed about any of the acts this year. Preferred cinemas:
Central London and North London as far north as the Hampstead Everyman including Picturehouse Hackney/Notting Hill Gate - but not Wood Green and North Finchley as they are just a bit too far.

Belongings
Saw Belongings last night at Trafalgar Studios 2. Definitely more adult content than I was expecting and the intimate studio setting really suits something with such building intensity. While as is usual for such a venue the play is fairly short, the young actress who plays the lead character is on stage from start to finish. Definitely not the easiest play in which to do that and some very interesting aspects to the staging keep the audience on their toes.
Not for you if you like your theatre as a barrel of laughs, but the uncontrollable sobbing among the audience by the end said something for the emotional intensity. A real shame for those involved in the production that this isn't selling well, but then again it's nice to get cheap tickets.

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
Went to see Janet Jackson tonight and it must have been the most use of strobe lighting in a concert EVER. We must have been strobe-lighted 50 times in the first 3 songs (if there's such a word), it was awful! And I was thinking her live singing isn't the greatest and the dance moves were abit repetitive. However it did pick up significantly in the 2nd half, when she played a string of very familiar hits, the place was rocking and the audience were enjoying it immensely. I didn't know she hadn't played in London for 13 years, when my friend remarked "well she hasn't done anything for that long!" The much muted virtual duet with Michael Jackson was abit of a damp squib, but the last song when she sang "together again" and dedicated it to Michael Jackson, it was quite heartfelt and a fitting ending 7/10

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
A really good evening at iTunes at the Roundhouse tonight, great support acts before the Manics - Ramona and Dry the River, seen them before live, so that's a nice treat to see them again! Thought the Manics played too loud for such an intimate space (better for open spaces), so once I plugged my ears in to drown out the bass, enjoyed it so much better. Non-stop music for an hour and a half almost. A good playlist ending with a Design for Life.
