Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
I was actually hoping their "something really special" would be a surprise screening of HP7 on the big screen on Trafalgar Square to thank (properly) all the silly people who camped out for 3 days...

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
I'll write more about this tomorrow, but what I'll say is while I enjoyed this, the 3D was shockingly bad. Yes, it worked well at times, but when it didn't it was dreadful. The forest scene with Harry and Voldemort was a mess due to the conversion. The shadows and textures jump to the foreground and this was also problematic in Hogwarts at times. The stonewalls and arches were often totally out of whack, as was some of the cobblestone floors. I felt it really detracted from a really solid film otherwise. It's a shame they can't just use 3D for certain scenes, especially when it is a conversion job.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Was great to see Beate, prettyxcool, valda, sunnysaver and funthing29 (???) for the first time as well as an old friend, TheyCallMeMrGlass, who kindly lent me a pair of his prototype 2D conversion glasses, which worked stupendously. After all, I wholeheartedly agree with soonforgotten's post about the 3D; while it had its (few) moments, it lacked clarity and depth and just appeared flat for most of the movie. I also thought that some of the scenes were a little rushed, especially Harry's face-off with Voldemort, which is very mildly disappointing, but it's a small price to p*y for one of the most well-crafted, emotional Potter films of all time. I left the cinema extremely sad, not just because a whole part of my life had come to an end but that for years I had wanted to be a part of the production crew, or one of the extras, just to BE ON THE SET... now I know that's never going to be possible.
I may write more about this tomorrow, but I am tired and sad at the moment so I need some sleep.

Short comment, maybe more later when I'm actually awake: I thought the movie was visually breathtaking (for once 3D actually worked) and while emotionally draining a beautiful ending to the series.
tl;dr I cried. A lot.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Actually thought that the red carpet footage was going to be longer than the film itself (it wasn't far off) and boy did it drag on. There's only so much actor luviness and shots of teenage girls hyperventilating and crying that one person can reasonably stand. Still the girl saying shit livened things up briefly.
As for the film itself I enjoyed it, though I was a bit tired by the time it finally started. Thinking about it afterwards I realised that all the bits I liked best involved Neville. Which was odd. His line towards Scabior, the run across the bridge, the bit with the snake, his small speech to Voldemort followed by the part where he comes too afterwards. His transistion from comic relief to actual hero across the series has been quite entertaining.
I do think it's a shame that some fine character actors get little chance to shine though but it's understandable considering the focus on the younger actors.
Wasn't quite as emotional as I expected it to be though, although Snape's flashbacks were good.
Completely agree with soonforgotten about the 3D though. For such a big budget movie it was shockingly bad on occasion with weird floating detached bits of scenery and hair. Surprised some people actually thought it was a good use of 3D. There were a couple of effective uses but not enough. It probably goes without saying but stick with 2D.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Here's my tuppence-worth.
Gotta be one of the best cinematic experiences I have had ever. 4 hours flew by. Really felt special as being at a world premiere - albeit the biggest London has ever seen, followed by a screening of the movie which the poor 3-day campers didn't get. Even got delivery of beers to our seats (due to refreshment seller in corridor not having a bottle opener. Lol.
Despite this being my first ever HP it definitely gets a 9.5/10 for me.
Neither of my eyes were dry during parts of the film (although not the obvious bit!)

Another great review from the knapman, can't add any more as you have summed it up so well
