One Day

#1 Post by raj101 » Sun Mar 27, 2011 9:49 am

Although only at the test screening stage, I thought this was a rather good 90's/00s movie and one for fans of Anne Hathaway. Its an adaptation of a lovely story by David Nichols, thats quite sad at times, the concept of looking back on my life one day each year is quite scary to be honest, seeing how I've not really moved up in my life, just sideways, much like the leads here. Crap. i'm crap, i mean, not the movie lol.

I'd give the screening we saw 8/10. The only thing thats wrong with it is Anne's English accent.

One Day

Directed by Lone Scherfig (director of An Education, Academy Award-nominated for Best Picture), the motion picture One Day is adapted for the screen by David Nicholls from his beloved, bestselling novel One Day.

After one day together – July 15th, 1988, their university graduation – Emma Morley (Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway) and Dexter Mayhew (Jim Sturgess of Across the Universe) begin a friendship that will last a lifetime.

She is a working-class girl of principle and ambition who dreams of making the world a better place. He is a wealthy charmer who dreams that the world will be his playground.

For the next two decades, key moments of their relationship are experienced over several July 15ths in their lives.

Together and apart, we see Dex and Em through their friendship and fights, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and tears. Somewhere along their journey, these two people realise that what they are searching and hoping for has been there for them all along.

As the true meaning of that one day back in 1988 is revealed, they come to terms with the nature of love and life itself.

unlikely story mind, no chance that a principled, pretty northern girl is gonna go near a posh cad southern loser.

Yeah it's the silly search function that never works, I've got used to trying a couple of different words, this time I searched for 'one day hathaway' as I knew she was in it and I had a vague memory that someone had posted about it before. Although I wasn't sure as I think the link to the trailer is in the 'movie news' thread.

I really enjoyed this book and read it through in one sitting during the wee hours of the night. Thanks for posting about the film. I had read ages ago that one was being made but didn't realise it was almost ready.
I hope I will like it. I'm sure I will.
