Re: X-Men: First Class
Liked this more than I thought I would, as I was looking forward to it, and it's a prequel, there was plenty of opportunity for it to go rather wrong, but loved it! Michael Fassbender was fantastic as Magneto. It is fairly neat in terms of flashes of moments (like the William moment KK mentions) but it didn't matter as it was a well done, involving action flick that was also very cool. I'm not sold on January Jones though. Good to hear it stands up to a second viewing also.
Was really nice to meet some fellow FMUKers finally today too!

Re: X-Men: First Class
I'm glad I got up early to see this again this morning. It really is on another level to most superhero movies and balances the human story well with the action. I am still blown away by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender's performances, they really are the heart of this film. After a second viewing, I can safely that Azazel (teleporter) and the tornado guy did not have a single line in the film - they were there purely for special effects purposes which seems lazy in such a character driven film.
It's still a terrific film and does not lose its charm on subsequent viewings.
Also nice to meet some new FMUKkers this morning.

Re: X-Men: First Class
Not strictly true. Azazel did say 'Comrade' before the first teleportation. Jason Flemyng knocking it out of the park with that line reading (can one word count as a line?)funthing29 wrote:After a second viewing, I can safely that Azazel (teleporter) and the tornado guy did not have a single line in the film

Re: X-Men: First Class
I was also at Marble Arch this morning. I was the strange looking fella with my little brother, and we wandered in at about 10:15 because of "planned engineering works." And we happened to come about a minute after the film had begun, and it was a particularly dark scene, so we had to wait for a brighter seen before we could seat ourselves, just incase we sat on some poor bastard's laps.
Anyway, on with my thoughts on the film. Very efficiently done. It's unquestionably the best X-Men film since the very first back in 2000. I was becoming increasingly angry with the franchise, but it certainly went back to basics here. The plot was by no means it's strong point. It was pretty standard stuff, but that's what I liked about it. It didn't try to get too complicated, and it easily could have. It's well very directed by Matthew Vaughn (and I am a massive Kick-Ass fan). I thought it was really well acted too. James McAvoy was reliable as Charles Xavier, and I thought Michael Fassbender did a very good job as Magneto. Kevin Bacon was also typically sinister. Anyway, I'm falling asleep, so I'll leave it at that. Thoroughly good stuff!

Re: X-Men: First Class
First time I thought Flemyng said nothing, on second watch he had lines like "Da" and "Comrade", he wouldn't shut up, which makes sense seeing as it's Jason Flemyng.

Re: X-Men: First Class
this is how superhero films should be made.
Whilst I'm not a massive fan of XMen, this helped further establish the interest by developing some of the two dimensional characters more than the conventional Xmen movies, and now I cant wait for further sequels.
This film might have benefited from an IMAX version, some of the scenes would have been breathtaking on it.

Re: X-Men: First Class
I went to see this again yesterday during the day at Greenwhich Odeon. We were going to see Green Lantern but I thought, my friend hasnt seen X Men yet and I love it enough to see it again. Having watched it again now, I am even more in love with this movie than before. This really is one of the best superhero films of the decade, though Dark Knight and Batman Begins are probably superior films, X men FC has a slightly more rewatchable value. I know I am going to watch this several times again on Blu Ray.

I enjoyed it more on second viewing too, although that line "mutant and proud" still bugs me, it's so cheesy.TheyCallMeMrGlass wrote: Having watched it again now, I am even more in love with this movie than before.
