Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread

Went to see Park Avenue Cat last night at the Arts Theatre. Such a shame it had a very low turnout, the theatre might have been 25% full, plays just don't sell like musicals do. Well it's another candidate for some free SFF tickets I suppose
It was a nice enough situational comedy and even if you don't like it, it's painlessly short at 1hr 20 mins approximately. The acting was too deliberate and by the numbers in places. I was quite surprised for such a small production, how many set changes they have. In fact, one scene things got a little stuck and the engineer guy had to walk on stage to press his remote to make the set move!

Unlikely I would have thought. I have already seen this through another seat filling service which regularly has Arts Theatre tickets. They get free tickets but charge a small booking fee per ticket.

Having said that some shows such as A History of Sexual Misery have used both services, however that was a late night show with a longer than average run for that theatre.

It was just really empty! Is it because the play appeals more to the locals and they are all on holiday? and the tourist that come to London prefer musicals because it's easier to "understand" them?

Off to the High Voltage Rock festival today :) Really look forward it. Never actually been top a music festival before! Been to rock concerts but never this type of thing. This is not free by the way, in case I get case bombarded with "how the hell did I get free tickets?", lol. Naa 'fraid we pa*d full price Just didnt know where else to talk about it. Looking forward to Slash the most.

hmm, HIgh VOltage, sounds good. is this one of those concerts you can sit outside the grounds and still hear the music just fine?

I don't think that it is only the tourists. My brother and sister in-law only go to see musicals and the same ones over and over again at that!

I think the Arts has less money to spend on publicity than the bigger theatres and has more shows to promote with such short runs. Even so with reasonably well known names such as Tessa Peake-Jones and Gray O’Brien (apparently a "name" from Coronation Street - never watched it myself) I'm suprised it hasn't done a bit better.

The reviews haven't been good of course. Apparently the performance on the 19th was cancelled and a new re-written version launched on the 20th, so you saw a different version to pxc and myself. By the sound of it that doesn't seem to have made a huge difference to sales yet.

There are plenty of them about. The larger ones e.g. Audience Club, Play by Play, Showsavers tend to charge a membership fee but if you use them and were going to p*y to see a couple of shows that they have tickets for you will easily recoup your money very quickly.

The one I saw Park Avenue Cat with doesn't charge a membership fee, but it is a single individual rather than a company. I'm afraid this particular service isn't open to the general public, sorry.
