I have tickets for Batman in a few weeks. :shifty:
Its always difficult for a tribute band, some are good and some are bad. With PInk Floyd, its more about the music, I wouldn't hvae a clue what they looked like but the music is great.

For my taste, I think Batman looks awful, but I'm not a fan of films turned into musical events,
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

Apparently the set and stunt for Batman are very impressive - they had better be considering the production costs were huge!

canadian_turtle, what were the 3 audience selected objects that were juggled tonight?

canadian_turtle wrote:Yeah I was there - even though I wasn't very much looking forward to it after seeing a 15 minute preview before that was not very appealing. The actual show was better, but not spectacular. I enjoyed the bit with the jelly and the torches but other than that it's more of a street act than a theatre show really which reflects in the very low audience numbers. When I saw how empty it was I did feel sorry for them though.
Yeah I did feel a little sorry for them. Not very good comedy + extremely depleted audience did lead to some awkward moments which they didn't really deserve with the lack of laughter but it was fine for free - a bit like the kind of thing you may expect to see on holiday. But, West End theatre? Needed to be much bigger and better. The bit when they were comparing jazz and juggling was terrific, but the rest of the show didn't reach that height.

Yeah first half I wasn't sure. What it was is (in my opinion) that they were not Pink Floyd and didn't have the charisma or aura of the rock legends.... But they could play and I was looking at some of the hardcore fans in front of me and they were smiling ear to ear.I thought the backing singers were amazing and that it was a shame there were empty seats. I felt they would have been better suited to play the Indigo. The pig was scary and the other thing looked like some sort of Ann Summers blow up reject lol

I thought British Pink Floyd were excellent actually. It helps if you know the songs, the musicianship and vocal delivery were spot on, the lights and projections really good and the setlist was pretty much the greatest hits compilation which is what they promised anyway. We had floor seats but asked to swap them for level 1, no problem, had a great view. The only downside (like I pondered somewhere else on here) was that they didn't do any Syd Barrett songs (other than the obvious Wish You Were Here dedication). Another Brick in the Wall, with the school kids on stage singing the chorus was awesome! So, for the band 10/10, the setlist 9/10.

Floyd got a lot better in the 2nd half, tbh, their better songs were later. But I agree the first half was passionless for some of the long slow songs.

The light show got a lot better too, and we some more of that wonderful backing singer going solo, and a troop of 'schoolkids' coming on for the chorus of Brick in the Wall.

I've seen the original band play virtually the same set (Pulse, its on youtube) and this wasnt really far off that performance.

They did start with Shine On You Crazy Diamond, you can't ask for a more epic opener!

yes that was epic, and so were the next three songs. I think the ending of the first half with lesser songs took the wind out of their sails.

Personally, and being on the ground floor too, I found this the best quality music I've heard at the o2 (bon jovi, neil diamond and guns and roses are the competition, american MOR and US rock, not amazing) and what made the difference was that Floyd are a real band (irony, mm) who write their own music and that makes a difference.

PF's music sometimes sounds a little dated (prog rock, long solos, cod psychology and moody false ephiphanies are all part of the 70s) but it still sounds pretty epic with the light show.
