Jon Lithgow was moving, such a good actor - hard to beleive he is this the same man in Lovely Bones.

Possibly hard to believe as he's not in Lovely Bones.

edit to say to Theones, that you didn't see a Planet of the Apes, because it was The Rise of, ie the lead up to, well that's my take on it

Yeah i get that, but when you promise a Rise of something, you kinda want to see the end result. I hadn't seen the original and i was looking forward to seeing how the Apes will take over us and what their own civilization would look like, but it was a very very minor nitpick that i can actually forgive since the rest of the movie was awesome

That just made me realise something I hadn't spotted at the time. In the trailer there's a shot of Franco driving away from Gen-Sys as a huge explosion takes place in the background. Having seen the film I can't actually imagine how that scene would have fit into the film. I can only assume quite a significant scene was cut.

I was actually waiting for that to happen. Your right, I forgot that it was in the trailer too. Hmm maybe they thought an explosion would have been to fierce? [spoiler]Since Caesar was against killing humans[/spoiler]

Reminds me of the HPDHP2 trailer, what happened to the ' "Why do you live?" "Because I have something worth living for." ' clip?

Thought this was excellent, one of the best of the year.

Andy Serkis as Caesar was undoubtedly the star of the film.
Thought James Franco was decent and John Lithgow was great as always although I did have a Bigfoot and the Hendersons flashback during one scene!

As everyone has mentioned in spoiler tags, a fantastic spine tingling moment as well. 9/10 from me as well.

For people who have already seen this, I know this is a 12a, but what's the youngest age you would suggest this is suitable for?

I really want to see this, but have no babysitter and don't want to scare the hell out of my 7 year old!

There was quite a young boy sat on one side of me probably about 7-8-9? (my best guess at kids ages!) and he seemed fine and followed the whole thing and enjoyed it. Same goes for the two little girls sat on laps on the seats to the other side of me (because it was so full). So as long as he's ok with a bit of animal violence he'll be ok. :)

Shame that the woman with a girl on her lap hadn't turned her phone off so started ringing and she went out to take the call .Fair enough sometimes people forget to put it on silent but then 5 mins later it rang again!! If you're waiting for such an important phone call that you can't turn it off for 2 hours then you really shouldn't be in a cinema.

i seen this this morning at shepherds bush.
didnt really fancy seeing it as i absolutely hated the planet of the apes (2001)that starred helen bonham carter and mark walhberg. but as it was down the road so i went to see it

all i can say is WOW i loved it!!
first half was lovely and little things i thought very cute like young monkey getting the cookies from top shelf .
second half had all the action.
fantastic movie from start to finish!!!
loved it one of best movies seen this year (maybe because wasnt expecting much ) but would recommend to everyone to see

this film was so well done.
and everyone haas already mentioned the john lithgow character which was really well done.
and Caesar the ape wow that was filmed so well. loved the human feeling he portrayed too
i have to admit i did shed a tear at one point too.
