Yeah you're right, Ms Thrifty-it was crazy that the staff suggested we could go to Purley Way, seeing as it was already 6:10pm, there was no way we would have got there on time! Also, the free tickets to any other film were only valid today, so we had to choose an alternate tonight, or miss out altogether. All other films that were showing at Grants we would have had about an hour wait, so we decided on The Smurfs 3D. It was an ok-ish film, nice childhood memories & boyfriend & I laughed at a few slapstick moments, but it was nothing special. Oh well-at least it was free!

With such a ridiculous title you would have thought this was a comedy - but you would be completely wrong here. The film was a bit of an enigma - a cross between a Clint Eastwood Western and Alien but more like a bit of a B movie that was the main feature at the Saturday Morning Pictures (I am showing my age here!) but in places pretty gory and quite horrific - so obviously not targeted at children. In fact I spent most of the movie wondering just who they were targeting. The original concept was an interesting one - what would it be like if aliens landed in the Old West? But the plot barely held together and in places completely fell apart. Who was Ella and where did she come from? The aliens were after gold - but why? This was never explained.

The only redeeming part of the movie was the beautiful scenery, much shot on location in various desert/canyon locations in the southern USA.

LOL I thought the same, same alien and for one that are so much more advanced and sophisticated than us in terms of space travel they always seem to be so damn ugly & primitive [spoiler](except for ella)[/spoiler]


I didn't think this was as bad as people are making out, I've sat through worse films than this this year.

Tried 3 times to post that I was there last night at the O2 at around 10 to 6, but my stoopid Iphone was being a pain.

Anyway, got there before 6 and they already had the doors open. Not sure what time that was tho. Hardly anyone there and no queues so bounded up to good seats at the back. People arrived in dribs and drabs but no mad rush. The film (well the beginning sky advert bits) started at 6.30pm as I dont think anyone had told the operator it wasnt starting till 7.... so then it stopped and a little lady told us it would be starting at 7pm, which it did. The cinema by then was packed out. Not sure if they opened the balcony or not.

Anyway, so to the film. Hmmmmm what can I say? It was watchable, but I didnt think that much of it to be honest. I liked Daniel Craigs character but got a bit bored with Harrison Fords towards the end. Found the Olivia Wilde bit a little odd but supposed it kinda fit. It was rather slow and I didnt think it had particularly good effects either. I agree with Elski, I've sat through worse films...

Saw this at Liverpool Switch Island last night, probably 60% full. We were greeted by the sky person who directed us to the counter where they sell the tickets (and popcorn and drinks) to hand over our sky printout in exchange for a ticket. After waiting for ages behind people who were b*ying enormous amounts of snacks, the Odeon staff member read our printout and gave us 2 small paper tickets (looked like someone had made on their pc.)
Of course we were asked if we wanted anything else, perhaps its a clever ploy by the cinema to try and make some money out of these free screenings. After politely declining (as I already had my 39p bottle of Pepsi Max and 69p large bag of popcorn concealed in my bag) we then were directed to the person who looks at the tickets. They took said tickets, put a small tear in them and gave me the the whole thing back. We never saw the Sky rep again. First time that has happened.

As for the film, hmm... I thought it was strange. Not the worst film I've ever seen. I liked Harrison Ford's acting, thought he gave the least wooden performance of the whole film. Not sure where Daniel Craig's character was being pitched, a mysterious man trying to uncover the mystery of his past. He needed more dialogue to capture his audience. And those aliens, surely they are cousins of Ridley Scotts Alien.

Someone said earlier that they were fixated at looking the clouds in the sky, with me it was the trees and bushes, in some of those scenes they didn't look real. Overall would give this film a 6/10

That's what I thought too, and for that very reason, I loved it!

I am not sure that I saw the film in the same way as everyone else - I thought it really funny in places, and could not understand why no-one else at the screening was laughing! I think it was one of the better films that I have seen this year. Given the title, I did not go expecting to see a serious film, with a watertight plot but expected some light entertainment for a couple of hours. That is exactly what the film delivered.
