Oscars 2012

#1 Post by superhero » Fri Aug 19, 2011 10:09 pm

I know Clint Eastwood had a few misfires recently, but I am really looking forward to J. Edgar and maybe a performance award for The Iron Lady? It's become such an easy option for awards recently, lets make a film about british royalty, british prime minister or just get a british director.
I know it really should be by merit, but maybe this year they want a local?

it certainly would be an oscar performance if Meryl Streep can make the Iron Lady popular

If you look at Oscar trends and history... This is the kind of role that this kind of actress would win an award for.

I do hope that Ralph Fiennes wins best supporting for Voldermort.

And though this isn't the oscars, I do hope the final Harry Potter (or maybe Tinker Tailor?) wins the Screen Actors Guild 'Best ensemble cast' award.

Moneyball is in the mix? The trailer looks like Jerry Maguire lite...

I guess the good thing is most of the films the bookies are backing haven't been released yet so lots to look forward to.

Scott Feinberg from The Hollywood Reporter has put out his early predictions as well.

Looks like Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar has some buzz. I can't believe we've has no trailer or poster for this one as it comes out in about six weeks in the US. War Horse and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close also in the running.
George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt amongst the favourites for Best Actor with Viola Davis's terrific performance in The Help up against Meryl Streep's Margaret Thatcher for Best Actress.

Anyway, might be a good checklist for the next few months as films to look out for.
