Re: Kill List
The film is really a cross between Pulp Fiction and The Wickerman without the coolness of Pulp. The pacing was deliberate to give that un-nerving feeling of horrifying anticipations, complemented with a tiring soundtrack that seemed completely ripped off of recent films with unsettling moods. Last Exorcism spring to mind, in fact it sounds exactly the same. There were a couple of quite funny scenes which is insufficient to actually call this a part comedy and just a couple of gross out realistic horror which isnt enough to qualify this as a part horror film either, so I wonder why some are calling it a comedy/horror. Basically, what we are left with is a sometime tedious, hitmen, marital drama and some wtf moments of head scratching madness.
i was nevertheless gripped enough to find out if all this will lead to an eventuallity which I felt was coming. I wont say if I was right or not but the end part of the journey was flipping weird. its so obvious there are hidden layers, but f*** knows what they are, oh right needs a second viewing. OK, I'm a sucker, I'll do just that, I'll watch it again
Nice to meet many fmukers once again. Great talking to you SF, your interesting thoughts on the film has me more intrigued and I wait to read your blog before watching the movie again. Although I am not giving this a film a high rating, it seems like a film that might be more appreciated second time and there are many movies I watch again that fall into that category.
beate, Ejrank, PCX, funthing, David, was a pleasure to meet and talk with you all again. PCX, you can never resist a photo opportunity, ay
The q&a at the end turned to be the more enjoyable part of the evening. The Irish fella was pretty funny but boy was he ruthless and tbh quite rude to an audience member who was asking the panel a question booming his voice a little too enthusiastically over the provided microphone. The Irish guy told him bluntly "Microphone techinique...microphone technique...what? someone's gotta tell him". Actually no, no one needed to tell him. Just let him ask his question, we're audience members, we're not flipping trained to use microphones. Unfortunately, the audience (including myself unfortunately, ashamedly) started laughing as the Irish guy said that, so the poor fella stopped midway, then after everyone died down a bit, he resumed his question, slightly more subdued but admirably trying to retain the initial enthusiasm he had, though no doubt feeling dejected...I know I would. And hell, that could easily be me. You dont treat audience particpants like that.
The panel consited of the 3 main protaganists and the director. They were all charming but did not really reveal much about the film story itself, just amusing anecdotes and stories of their time making the film.

Re: Kill List
I didn't read reviews/watch trailer for this film and that was my big mistake...
Re: Kill List
I'll get the rant about the Prince Charles cinema out of the way first.. It is the most stupid cinema ever, it actually used to be ok before they "refurbished the seating". Sore neck every time I go there now. I miss those double seats at the back!
Anyway, I enjoyed some elements of the film, mainly the relationship between the two assassins, and their sense of humour (couldn't hear parts of the dialogue as people were laughing so hard), Michael Smiley was excellent as he always is (he had the best small part in Spaced!) and Neil Maskell was suitably sinister. I also liked the intense and understated score even if it isn't that original. I'm not a fan of gruesome stuff so had to look away during a couple of scenes, and the twist at the end was disturbing even if you see it coming. I'll say 6/10 as it kept my interest until the end.
I didn't find the story too confusing, there are enough hints along the way as to what's going on, one line in particular springs to mind, when they try to get out of the whole business they're told something like “You are a cog, this is a reconstruction. Keep turning.” Neil Maskell referred to the political allegory during the Q&A, and the message about whatever evil you do, it comes back to you. Glad I stayed for the Q&A actually, some of the stories were quite funny, so overall worth the trip.

Re: Kill List
I didn't get it, I didn't get it at all! Thank goodness we weren't the only ones. Really it just felt like a load of nonsense. Tried to find a subtext but really struggling. What on earth was that
Nigel Floyd (filling in for Kermode on 5 Live Film Review) was saying how terrific and terrifying it is last week. Errrr...what? A load of ideas smashed together and it meant NOTHING. No idea how I can review it when it seemed so bizarre, and not in a good way. I'll try tomorrow!
Was very rude and on my phone during the Q&A trying to keep tabs on the football transfer window, but doesn't sound like they shed much light onto the film. As my mum said - everyone was too polite to ask "what on earth was it actually supposed to be about?".
3/10
Oh and I agree with Mr G. The Irish guy was very rude to the audience member. If someone's going to speak out and be enthusiastic about your film don't make them feel like crap.

Re: Kill List
You are quite right TheyCallMeMrGlass, no reason why the actor on the panel needed to be rude to someone trying to ask a question--it was a cheap shot. I never have the courage to ask a question at those things and that has put me off even thinking of trying.
As for jeancomp's question about Kill List vs The Divide -- I have no idea how to compare them. I didn't like either of them. I thought the beginnings of both looked like they might have some promise but they deteriorated fast. Quite a week for bad films for me with The Divide, Kill List, out of focus Fright Night. So I have to be grateful for Friends with Benefits and I never thought I'd be saying that.

Re: Kill List
Not sure if I liked this movie or not.
The first half was very slow then the second killing scene with the hammer(was more along the line of what I thought this movie was gonna be about). Then it was just wierd :/. What was that tribe group thing supposed to be about? Was is all a test for him or something. Is that why everyone was smiling before they got killed? And happy to meet him?
But I did quite like the character gary/gal. He was funny at times
When I think about it this movie reminds me a bit of Blair witch project. Not in the story sence but that was hyped up so much too. Scaryiest movie ever while this one was supposed to be terrifying and gruesome
Yeah I think I just talked myself out of liking this movie.

Re: Kill List
Firstly thanks to Mr G, David and ejwrank for sticking up for my friend. I don't have to use a microphone myself that often strangely, so quite possibly would have had the same problem. I don't think he was actually that affected by it, but yes it was unnecessary.
I do agree both that the q&a was enjoyable, with some funny anecdotes such as the one about the waitress when the lead actors were discussing
whether they were going to kill the priest today? and the method of execution.
But also that it failed to shed any real light upon the film. When the cast members were telling us "when they got it" I wanted to shout out and ask what 'it' was? I do wonder what goes on inside the heads of some of these film makers.
That aside I have to be honest and say that I rather enjoyed watching this film, at least until it went completely wierd. Possibly that says more about me than the film, although I was part of a group of 7 people for this and with one very strong exception the rest of us felt much the same! I actually enjoy films where I'm not necessarily sure exactly why everything is happening and like the intrigue and trying to piece things together. However while I don't mind a few loose ends I do like to find out the central mystery by the end of the film. Otherwise the overwhelming feeling at the end can be one of frustration and this was true in this case.

Re: Kill List
Maybe I should have stuck around for the q and a at the end u keep thinking of things that never got explained in the movie.
Such as why did they cut the Hand of the main character ? I thought at beginning it was like some blood brothers thing but that didn't seem to be it ? They kept making a reference to his hand tho all the way thro the movie
Then why did the lady with black hair stole the tissues with the other ladies lipstick on ??
Were both of these for DNA ? But why. What did they need that for? Unless it was to do with the young boy ?
But from the sound of it they wouldn't have explained either of these things. And any other that comes into my head
As for those saying they have to watch it again to understand. Are u mad ?

Re: Kill List
I was about to comment that on the way out, but stopped as it was at that split second when the actors were going in!David wrote:"what on earth was it actually supposed to be about?".
In short the film was fmuking sh*t.
I slept a lot but felt I slept badly: OH said it was because I was traumatised at how awful the film was. National Lottery would do better to just give me the money rather than waste it on rubbish like this.
PXC: Told OH you got lots of pics with the actors. He said 'surely that couldn't have been difficult'
