With more time to reflect, I think this film is definitely a cross between Pulp Fiction and The Wicker Man. The 2 hit men were very much the British versions of Jules and Vincent down to the small talk and bloodied incidents mirroring Jules reaction to Vincent's violent mishap...I am sure it is an influence that director wont admit to.

The more I think about it the more unoriginal the film seems to be on the surface. Its all been done before except, nothing is explained openly this time. The mysteries are obviously buried within bizarre clues littered through the movie which I will see again despite not really enjoying the film (yes I am mad, ansbro81...surely that was obvious!). For sure, the director is being quite presumptious and arrogant, knowing that most of us, apart from very sharp minded people, wont "get it" on first viewing and probably expects us to think hard afterwards, do reasearch or watch it again. Unfortunately, he hasnt made the film entertaining enough for most of us to bother.

I dont hate the film as most others here do, though. I'm not that mad to watch a film I really hate again!
Its not uncommon for me to watch movies I dont enjoy first time, again. Often I appreciate it more. Classic example is Brazil and more recently, The Last Exorcist. This film just about scrapes qualification for my second visit ;)

Cliveas, very glad to hear your friend wasnt phased by the Irish actor's rudeness. I would have completely buckled. I admired his resolve to continue and ask his question with confidence. I thought he would have made a more lively interviewer than what we had on the panel, lol. His enthusiastic mannerisms reminded me of JJ Abrams for some reason.

I was looking up the profiles of all of the actors on IMDB. There is absolutely no background acting history on the Irish actor (Harry Simpson) apart from Kill List, so his "microphone lecture" seems even more arrogant. The other 2 actors have a wealth of acting roles behind them in quite a few popular British tv series. It might interest all you Twighlight fans that she will play a character called Tanya in the new installment. She does have a mature star quailty beauty about her.

You're thinking of Michael Smiley, Harry Simpson was the kid I think.

Lol, no wonder. I assumed it to be Harry Simpson because he was given 3rd billing on IMDB. Thanks for the correction, as you can tell I am brilliant at research. Dont think I have seem him in anything before. He is still arrogant and rude ;)

Crickey, RT is accumulates 92% rating but its only from 11 reviews so far.

I think it's more of a wannabe Wicker Man and wannabe Pulp Fiction, but the director's clueless.

And if the total film guy said he's the best to offer from Raindance, no wonder SFF is doing discounted tickets for them!

Wannabe is the right word, I wouldnt say the director is clueless, though in the q&a, he seems to play act it...at least I think he is play acting  He is just blatantly ripping off other classic works and trying to make it look clever by not making sense. Its all very pretentious but what if it really doesnt make any sense even to the director and script writer any they just want us to try make sense of it in our own way? That would really piss people off!

I've posted a lengthy review that I feel offers more than the professional reviews out there without resorting to clichés or spoiling the story.

http://wp.me/p1LZHn-3Q

I'm thinking of doing a more personal write-up on this as well, as I discovered a lot about this film a second time but am still quite frustrated about where the hints and parallels lead. Even Wheatley's explanation to me that it's a take on Arthurian legend has left me baffled as I cannot figure out what it correlates to.

The shame of this film is that is could have been great if it lead to a p*y-off that could at least be reached by a second viewing. Instead many people will be baffled and put-off by the initial viewing.

I actually lowered my score on this after seeing it a second time and not being able to figure out what the hell Wheatley means by it being Arthurian legend. If you read the Total Film review, he must have given them the same explanation, as it's mentioned without any basis.
