With more time to reflect, I think this film is definitely a cross between Pulp Fiction and The Wicker Man. The 2 hit men were very much the British versions of Jules and Vincent down to the small talk and bloodied incidents mirroring Jules reaction to Vincent's violent mishap...I am sure it is an influence that director wont admit to.
The more I think about it the more unoriginal the film seems to be on the surface. Its all been done before except, nothing is explained openly this time. The mysteries are obviously buried within bizarre clues littered through the movie which I will see again despite not really enjoying the film (yes I am mad, ansbro81...surely that was obvious!). For sure, the director is being quite presumptious and arrogant, knowing that most of us, apart from very sharp minded people, wont "get it" on first viewing and probably expects us to think hard afterwards, do reasearch or watch it again. Unfortunately, he hasnt made the film entertaining enough for most of us to bother.
I dont hate the film as most others here do, though. I'm not
that mad to watch a film I really hate again!
Its not uncommon for me to watch movies I dont enjoy first time, again. Often I appreciate it more. Classic example is Brazil and more recently, The Last Exorcist. This film just about scrapes qualification for my second visit
