They've double their rate then, we've had 2 films in 10 months!AYBG wrote:Curses!stuartboy wrote:Yay! I've beaten AYBG to it.
Pretty dedicated to its mock-context, so narratively it's loose; possibly not so engaging for some, but I had a blast. Norway - when it gets off its arse and makes a movie (approximately half a dozen times a year) - likes to put Norway on the screen, and alongside shots of its fascinating countryside we get its folklore turned fact. The film could've been called Troll Science, the way it so casually throws in little quirky things that we all see all the time but don't question, and ties them to its reality - yet rarely in your face, often subtly. It even has a parodic feel - it's been 12 years since The Blair Witch Project, so it's refreshing to see a mockumentary that makes a joke out of playing it straight, right from the opening cards. But its crowning achievement is how well it brings its humour and horror, and sometimes (daringly) both at the same time. In the end, you just enjoy it.
8.5/10

Re: Troll Hunter
I am pretty sure it is, seeing as it was filmed in Norwegian.

Yes. Not that the dialogue really matters.superhero wrote:Is this film subtitled?
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Re: Troll Hunter
Just thought we better let some people know, as some people really don't like subtitled films
Re: Troll Hunter
Saw this as part of a double-header with Colombiana on Thurs. The screening at Clapham Picturehouse had a single-figure audience, which suited me fine!!
Troll Hunter was huge fun. I prefer it to others in this genre such as Blair-Witch or Cloverfield. It's not scary at all but so entertaining as it's tongue 'n' cheek and doesn't take itself too seriously. A nice concotion of mockumentary, thrills, science program, government cover-up and some of the humour coming out of Monty Python (eg the man's boredom at filing yet another Troll Slaying form!). I can see this being a cult-classic in years to come.

Re: Troll Hunter
I was hoping to see this in Glasgow after watching A Lonely Place to Die in Paisley but thanks to a PM from Yinster I realise it's not possible to do both as LPTD does not show until 7pm rather than the usual 6.30pm. My seat will be empty in Glasgow!
