That's just a rumour. We got in fine but it was packed and I think they only had rubbish seats left. We ended up in row U of the stalls which must be one of the worst rows in the theatre. Apart from not having any legroom, the upper half of the stage is also not visible at all due to the overhanging royal circle and it's too far back to see faces up close. The only saving grace was that one was an aisle seat so OH graciously gave me that so I could stretch my legs out and have a better view as miraculously there was an empty seat in front of that seat. Must have been the only one in the stalls.

Rock the Ages is difficult to review. Like Mamma Mia, a story is built around some songs which are supposed to hold it all together. Unlike Mamma Mia though it doesn't quite work for me though. I knew the majority of songs but not all of them and some of the plot was plain weird and didn't really fit together and form a rounded story in my opinion. I mean what was Heinz from Hamburg doing in there and why was he wearing Bavarian costume at the end? Shame for such a glaring error. It was however quite funny, and a lot of the songs really rocked. OH thought it was brilliant but I found some parts in the middle a tad boring. The finale was great though. Of course we never got any glitter showered on us in our crappy seats but I have three of those lighters now which they handed out to people at the beginning. Am I the only one who found it irritating to have girls with beer bottles walking around during the show trying to sell them? This theatre has zero legroom and yet they are trying to get as many people ready for a bathroom break as possible? Not clever.

OH had a complete blast though. o/

It's marvellously staged with a number of large, impressive set-pieces - at one point a wind machine sends thousands of scraps of tissue paper (or "snow") into the audience as Slava sways in front of it. It takes clowning to a whole new level of artistry - I just love it. Has anyone else seen this magnificent show? If not, I implore you, GO AND SEE IT.
My sister is always raving on about it, she's seen it a couple of times in Southampton. I'm do busy doing a bah humbug I hate Christmas and alwasy refuse to go :red:

Oh yes we have also seen Slava's Snowshow (his full name is Slava Polunin, if I remember right)-- years ago at the Hackney Empire. Our children were small so it must have been 12-15 years ago. We all loved it. Do you remember the huge ball that was thrown into the audience and everyone had to keep it aloft? It was a terrific show and obviously has lived long in the memory.

As others have said here, Rock of Ages is really great fun. I loved all the songs and the finale is the best I have seen in a show. You leave on such a high!

I had no problems collecting the tickets on Wednesday although I was further back in the stalls, row U. I would not mind seeing it again in a few weeks' time. So I keep my fingers crossed for more tickets being made available.

A lady at work dragged a few of us a couple of years ago to see this at Wimbledon.
I didn't fancy seeing it all but went anyway. It was fantastic such a different show. Thes snow coming out into the audience was brilliant as were the giant balls that came out into the audience.
Only thing is I think you have to be quite near front to see all details.
But really different show to see.

It didn't bother me at first, but during the second half there were more people b*ying and moving around in general (perhaps dashing to the toilet after all the beer they had drunk!) and that was distracting and annoying. But probably the closer you were to the stage the less you noticed all this.

I wnder if some of the songs in Rock of Ages were written for the show storyline. I'm sure all of those couldn't have been from the 80's, although I knew quite a few.

I don't bother with the story lines for any of these sorts of shows - We Will Rock you has dreadful storyline but great songs

RE beer ladies, I didn't even realise they were for sale, I thought they were props they were trying to get people to use :shifty:
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

How can you say WWRY has a dreadful storyline??? D:

I know most songs from RoA, some are just less well known. I don't think any of them has been written for the show specifically though some text may be slightly altered (for instance in WWRY they sing about Internet Gaga in Radio Gaga)
