Re: Drive
What's so awesome about violence? It isn't cool, and it isn't clever.
This film was weird. It almost felt like arthouse. So there is this loner who works at a garage and drives stunt cars on movie sets and in his free time he also acts as a getaway driver for criminals. Why? We never find out. Then he gets himself involved with some serious gangsters and a married Carey Mulligan, and the violence starts. Stupid and pointless. One of those films that you just know will end badly.
The Drive t-shirts don't look bad though - the entire Picturhouse crew were wearing them this morning but we didn't get any!
4/10

Re: Drive
They will be giving T-shirts tomorrow
Has anybody taken a picture of the said T-shirt? Is it worth changing my mind again and seeing it a second time and trying to grab a T-shirt at the same time :shiffty:

Nah, I felt I couldn't go to the usherette and ask her whether I could take a picture of her shirt then point my camera phone at her boobs, LOL.

if you don't shout "hooray for boobies" at the same time I am sure she would not have minded

Re: Drive
There is nothing awesome about violence, but the treat was how graphically and realistically it was portrayed on screen. The idea was to shock and they certainly did. Sadly these things do happen and we were treated to some of the most realistic violence I have seen. Definitely not pretty. I agree violence is not cool nor clever, but what was impressive was how they managed to convince the audience.Beate wrote:What's so awesome about violence? It isn't cool, and it isn't clever.
Definitely not for the squeamish though.

Re: Drive
I have to agree to disagree as I can't see a treat in having "realistic" violence portrayed (or unrealistic one, I don't care).

Re: Drive
Brilliant film, nice slow burn but with some action scenes. More gory than I was expecting but at least nobody was throwing up (which they seem to do in every film or TV show I see these days and which upsets me more than blood). Lots of good work and I'm happy when it's not too long. Another one worth getting up for.

Re: Drive
Why does anyone get into crime? Lots of reasons tbh but I think the no background info added to air of detachment.Beate wrote:What's so awesome about violence? It isn't cool, and it isn't clever.

Nothing wrong with arthouse imo.
