I know, when pigs fly, LOL.
I'm not sure they had XL. All the t-shirts they gave out at WIQ were size M.

They only had about 15 to start with so definitely no left-overs...

That's definitely one of the best films in 2011, if not THE best! Of course, some people not going to like it for a few excessive killing scenes, but combining everything I saw in the movie, it is just brilliant. Oscar nominee maybe?
PS for some reason I thought of Tarantino as a director after watching it :)

how can people like this movie so much? At the start I thought it looked promising, a faded 80s backdrop of an american city, a stunt driver who moonlights for getaways, and he drives in an intelligent way too.

So whilst theres things to enjoy on show, theres so much wrong with the film. Where to begin?

1. Precious little driving for a movie called Drive.
2. A completely fake love triangle with no emotion in any of the players involved
3. Inept fight scenes. Driver turns into John McClane and beats armed opponents with his bare hands...then falls for a knife at the end...???
4. Scenes where people just stare at space, or at each other. This may work for Ryan Gosling since hes the moody driver type hero whose brain is wired differently to other peoples because of his driving skills, but for the others its fake.
5. Stupid plot at times -i wont mention the details but how Ryan tries to 'help' a 'friend' borders on the ridiculous.
6. CHaracters have zero motivation for what they do. Theres no sense to what they do ad why they do it.
7. Some scenes are entirely missing from the movie. Not just ones that 'make interpretation ambivalent', but moments in say, fight scenes, that then make the fight look staged. Also the way the boob women just sit around whilst a man with a hammer nuts their boss. What?? totally unrealistic.
8. the way Ryan kicked and kicked that man after he was dead was ridiculously OTTP. noone on earth who is sane and trustworthy would do that. and a pointless scenes too, reminded me of the 'style' of Kill List.

Nevertheless there are some things to enjoy. The city shots, thoughtful driving stunt scenes, an interesting Perlman villain and a decent soundtrack. It feels coherent in style and maintains the moody style all the way through the movie. But more substance would have been an improvement.

As someones mentioned it has Tarantino moments in its soundtrack but the music is mainly 80s style electropop and broad brian eno type synthesizers, which worked well to set the mood.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

We did get the t-shirts in the end but only because I asked. Otherwise they wouldn't have b*ght it out. Complete f**k up yet again at West India Quays. I am still so f**king pissed off. So yes, please do write a complaint SF and Beate. Anyway, the f**king idiot duty manager said to write a complaint.

A long rant before I get anywhere near the movie....

When I got to West India Quays at 5:30pm, I went straight to the security guard and he didn't allow me to go up and wouldn't tell me what screen it's in. He was so rude to me, it was unbelievable (not their normal security guard). He said I need to get a proper ticket from reception even though I told him, that's not the case with WIQ and I highly doubt they changed their policy within a day. Went over to reception and explained the problem to the guy saying that I should be allowed straight through and I don't understand why I'm being stopped. He asked me who said it, to which I responded "the idiot over there" and pointed to the idiot. He turned around and he goes, "ok, there's no need to call him an idiot." I responded, "excuse me? If he wasn't rude to me in the first instance, then yes, there is no to call him an idiot. If he answered my questions, then yes there is no need to call him an idiot, if he provided an ample amount of good customer service then yes there is no need but since he did none, don't tell me what I should and shouldn't call him." He didn't respond to this and called to find out about it. Once he was informed they only need the print out, he had to go tell the security guard himself as I refused to speak to the idiot. At which point, I turned around and said, "this is what I mean, he completely wasted my time."

So I finally went to screen 1 and waited there for milkchocmonkey (mcm) to come before I went through. The usher was willing to let me go in and sit down on the side and then into the screen so credit to him for that. When mcm came I told her about the t-shirt but she had no idea we were even getting t-shirts!!! She was very confused and had no clue to what I was talking about! She almost went into the screening but I stalled her and so she asked and they responded they never heard of any t-shirts for the screenings. They were hoping we were going to go in without disputing at which point I said, "there are 20 t-shirts for the first 20 people and it was printed in the TF magazine." They then went to call their duty manager who arrived. He said he hadn't heard of it and will call the manager to find out and will bring it at the end of the screening. I then responded, "how is that useful or fair? They were supposed to be given out now and they're for the first 20 people and since you're not recording, how will you know who the first 20 people are?" He goes "ok then, I will go do it now and get back to you." At this point, I also complained about the security guard and he started giving me a lecture about how I shouldn't have called their security guard an idiot. I pointed out to him, we wouldn't have got to this stage if provided even an inch of customer service saying that if he had good customer service skills a) he'd go and find out what the screening was b) he wouldn't shout at me or be so rude. I told him I will complain on their website to which he responded, "go and complain on our website, you can contact our head office on our website" to which I pointed out, "yes I know, that's what I just said, don't tell me things I already know." What sort of f**king customer service is that???? Who f**king tells customers to write written complaints especially when they're the duty manager? You're supposed to resolve the complaint, dumb fucker.

Anyhow, about ten minutes later, miraculously the t-shirts were found and we were given the t-shirts. My friend came and was one of the first twenty but they failed to give her a t-shirt so I took her back downstairs and made her get hers!

It started at 6:32pm and late comers were coming up. Now this part really took the f**king piss. Late comers (almost a good ten of them) arrived between 6:32pm - 6:45pm (almost fifteen minutes into the film), blocked the f**king screen for that entire period and my f**king view (as well as mcm's and hdaniel82). At this point, we had to f**king tell them to move so some decided to go and sit on others laps and others went back downstairs and told the ushers they couldn't see in the dark. So what did the ushers do? They put the f**king light on. So while the movie was running, the f**king late comers who were looking for seats not only blocked our view, we had to put up with the light until they found their f**king seats. And they had f**king cheek to ask people to move for them. Why the f**k should people move for you? If you're f**king late, you need to take whatever f**king seat you find. Someone even had the f**king cheek to be rude to someone because he refused to move. Well, if you want to f**k your boyfriend or girlfriend, you should have thought of that before and arrive in a timely manner like the rest of us. So f**king inconsiderate.

The light was on for about five minutes until they had taken their seats. Another ten minutes into the film at 6:55pm there were more f**king late comers and this time, although the light wasn't put on, they came right to the top of the stairs where me and mcm and hdaniel82 were sitting and blocked our f**king view. Eventually they found a seat next to my friend and was really rude to her. I turned around and said to him, "what's the point of f**king watching this movie?" but he didn't respond and only gave a dirty look. MCM, hd82 and I had shouted at several late-comers to move out the way and it really interrupted our viewing. WIQ was at this point 100% full. There were definitely no empty seats.

Moving onto the movie, well I will have to watch this again. With so many disruptions in the first half hour (having my view blocked and being interrupted), I missed quite a few chunks of the movie as I was unable to see or concentrate. I had to ask mcm to whisper some of it to me. Of the part I did see, I actually did really enjoy it. There was quite a few "look away" moments (particularly for my friend and mcm) but I felt it was necessary for this movie and the violence just seemed more realistic (especially with all the noise you hear although the lift scene was a bit over the top imo). Someone in WIQ really did jump at the violence and as such dropped their phone or something which was quite funny. There were also some laughter but I think it was more from shock then actually being funny, if that makes sense? Although, most of the laughter came at the fact he wore his blood stained jacket throughout and then his shoes!

This wasn't a really fast or slow movie but I think it went at the right pace, adding to the suspense which is maintained throughout the movie. I'm not a big fan of Ryan Gosling but I thought he did a great job with his acting in this film and the way he continues to remain calm throughout is very impressive. I quite liked how his character came across and at times was quite cute and humorous. I think you could really feel his relationships with the characters which helped add to the emotion displayed. Mulligan was a bit irritating for me though so I'm glad she didn't appear too much..... Although the music isn't really my taste, I think it suited the film very well.
Shame, he didn't take the money in the end though although I guess it wouldn't have suited in this sort of film.
I would have happily taken it! :D

Tension flies in this film and I found myself quite engrossed into it - so engrossed that I hadn't realise there was little dialog for Gosling! Just goes to show that in his case, his actions certainly spoke for him. A very highly emotive film and well worth watching if you're not faint-hearted! 7/10 for now although this may change once I have had an opportunity to watch the first 30 mins again. Although I did enjoy it, this isn't my best film of the year though... -10/10 for WIQ's poor customer service.

Great to catch up with mcm and see hd82 although I didn't get the chance to talk to her properly. :(

What an awful experience, especially as the beginning was the best bit. WIQ really are rubbish. Hope you get something good out of your complaint. Oh and make sure you phrase your email with 'we' rather than 'I' (as I did) so that hopefully they give you a pair of tickets.

Thanks for the advice David, I will do that. I will have to find your Fright Night blog, comment on it and then send them a link to your blog so they know how dreadful they are (and you worded it perfectly, I was really :bwl: when I was reading it). I am still unsure how incompetent people manage to get jobs especially when there are people out there who could a) do the job better b) genuinely want to be there to do the job.

Well they truly deserved the comments you made on your blog and they should see it! They should consider your blog as a whip on their backside! It doesn't say much about them anyway.

BTW, you should have told them your ticket was for two even if you wrote it as "I." Or replied, my plus 1 was inconvenienced and I don't see an offer for her so should I get her to complain separately!
