I thought this was just going to be one of those cheesy family movies, but Dolphin Tale was actually really good! It was sweet and pulls you into the story (both that of the dolphin as well as that of the likeable children central to the movie). The under wate rshots were very impressive, not truly 3D as in I wanted to reach out and touch the fish, but it added a certain mysterious glow to it all.

The movie is also based on a true story (with the dolphin it's based on being the same one as in the film) which makes it more interesting, especially with the clips at the end from the real rescue mission and people with disabilities visiting him.

I shed a tear (or two) and for that it gets a 9/10.

We saw this at a very busy Ocean Terminal in Leith this morning.
As you'll all know I was cursing the 3D and after seeing the film don't think it added anything to the film.

But that didn't spoil the film, this was a lovely kids story, well filmed, well acted and generally just feelgood all round.

The cinema was very busy and of all the kids films I can remember seeing recently this was the quietest and most well behaved children ever. I think it just proves kids don't need noise and bright colours to entertain them. A good story is much better.

This reminded me fo films from my childhood.

We both really enjoyed it.

9/10 from me.

I watched this at Watford this morning and bumped into the lovely funthing29 and her mum, the cinema was about 90% full, unfortunately somebody decided to take a toddler who cried for at least 10 minutes before being taken out, which was during some of the quieter scenes in the film which was quite off putting. There was also a boy at the end of our row having quite loud conversations with his dad and being told to turn something off throughout the film, I think they were sitting behind FF29 & mum so hope they didn't distract them too much. Other than that all the children were very well behaved and quiet.

This film was much better than I expected, I knew my daughter would like it but wasn't sure about the boys as they are currently into the action packed Transformers and Real Steel type offerings, however all of us were completely taken by the film. By the end we were all in love with Winter, it really is a lovely touching film, the scenes of the real rescue at the end brought many a tear......in fact my friend was in floods, especially as those final scenes were set to her beloved Westlife! lol

The 3D was pointless and the only thing that let it down 9/10

Kids came home and and logged straight on to http://www.seewinter.com to see Winter for themselves.

A sad sweet children's story but it failed to move me to tears. It was too long and slow for a kid's film so a lot of the children in the cinema were getting restless. The boy sitting next to me was bored and kept telling his dad that he wanted to go home, which prompted several loud conversations throughout the film. Very distracting indeed.

Aside from a few impressive underwater scenes, the 3D was completely pointless. Strong supporting work from Freeman, Judd and Connick Jr. The relationship between Sawyer and Winter was rather touching but the film just didn't connect with me emotionally. Not sure it was worth missing The Lion King 3D for this.

Nice to see raineylb though.

6.5/10.

Although a children's film, I think under 7/8 may struggle to follow and understand the emotional side of the story, hence some restlessness. It's quite a slow burner with not much action to keep them amused, so unless they have understood Winter's plight and why the relationship between her and Sawyer is so important and how it effects both their lives, I can see how they may become bored. Mine at 7 & 9 were completely enthralled as was my friends 8 year old.

I agree. There's not much spectacle here so you need to be old enough to follow the story.

Saw this in Birmingham, the busiest I've seen a cinema in a while. Really enjoyed the film and thought it was a heartwarming family movie :)

I absolutely adored this film. Top-notch cast, beautiful cinematography and soundtrack, great story, and best of all, it was a true one. Winter the dolphin is alive and well and has a website, which I will be visiting in a minute. And if you didn't have at least a few tears in your eyes at the end when they showed the disabled people who were helped with those prosthetic legs, like Winter was helped with a tail, then you have a heart made of stone. It wasn't saccharine though, it was just a moving story about a dolphin who lost his tail and was helped by a bunch of people, including an 11-year old boy who completely came out of his shell. I would have called the film "Dolphin Tail" though. Or even better, "Winter's Tale". But hey, it was wonderful all the same. I want to see this again now! The 3D, though not adding much really, was not a problem and did not darken the colours at all, and it gave the water scenes (and there were plenty) a bit of depth.
Ditto. I also adored this film and found it much better than I expected.
I also thought the same regarding the title.
