Sandra Bullock has topped the US box office chart with her new comedy The Proposal - her first number one film in ten years.

The Proposal's haul of $34 million also marked Bullock's biggest ever opening. The comedy sees Bullock's high flying executive attempting to marry her lowly assistant, played by Ryan Reynolds, in a bid to obtain a green card.

"It definitely met and exceeded our expectations. In a summer with a lot of sequels, it's always nice to have an original movie," said Disney's president Mark Zoradi.

Bullock's last number one film was 1999's Forces of Nature with Ben Affleck.

Box office smash The Hangover dropped to number two, while Pixar's Up was in third place.

Prehistoric comedy Year One and thriller The Taking of Pelham 123 rounded out the top five.
Hopefully this will be quite good tho, although dont want to set my expectations to high

I think that we pretty much know what to expect from this rom-com with Sandra Bullock. It will be light - weight and easy to watch. I'm looking forward to it. :D

Right, well if anything else than Swiss Cottage comes up, can people think of me please, and my Swiss Cottage tickets can then go to moondance or whoever it was who asked for them.

me too sometimes a trailer can mean when you watch the film you've seen absolutely all the best bits.. had seen the ice age 3 trailer sooo many times recently at the cinema that when i saw the film felt a bit disappointed as i already had seen the most funniest bits and knew them too well

Well... I've just came back from seeing this at Silverlink....

After seeing the trailer once, and adoring Chick Flicks then i'm happy i managed to go.
The film was better than i expected, although still a little dull.

A couple of annoying bits, not the films fault... a woman was listening to her voicemail messages a few times during the movie, this is not cool! being able to hear someones whispery voice when you're trying to watch a film is not fun!
A girl got a fit of the giggles big time... and then overdramatised it for like 3 mins after anything funny.
And, not bad i guess, but confusing, why a girl was blubbing near the end in what i thought was a very un-emotional scene.

Nevertheless, I have changed my judgement on Sandra Bullock, I thought she was getting on a bit for Rom-coms, but she impressed me. and the guy was quite cool as the character he played, if a little tangoed lol, and i loved Ramone and Grammy hehe.

I wont be rushing to get the DVD, and if people fancy a night out.... i'll suggest the hangover lol!

5/10
