Here they are:Beate wrote:Saw Sing Your Song after winning a last minute comp (and while I was already on my way I won the twitter comp too apparently). It's about the life of Harry Belafonte who was there in person both to introduce the film and answer questions afterwards. Other than my mother playing a lot of his music when I was younger I didn't know much about him so this was a very interesting history lesson of an artist / activist who has fought against injustice his whole life and experienced it as well, being a black performer in a 50s America where segregation was the norm and Senator McCarthy even accused him of being a communist. He has had a long and checkered life, and for his age (he must be over 80 now), he is keeping very well indeed. I immensely enjoyed the film, but the Q&A consisted of 3 questions only, as he answered each one at such lengths.
Post your pics, PXC!

I could have seen Rebellion (French film) as well tonight which is the film my friend went to see, as a guy tried to give his tickets away in front of the cinema and nobody wanted them! She said the cinema was half empty.

Me too, last minute win - had 25 minutes to collect my prize!
Powerful, awesome documentary. Very inspirational too. He deserved the standing ovation we gave him at the end. I recognised and love all those songs, as I grew up with them, some of my relatives are black and my best friend was a quarter Jamaican. Not just a great performer, this man even though he is over 80, is still going strong campaigning and putting the injustices to right. Such a shame the screening was half full, even Harry Belafonte commented on it!
