good movie considering a difficult subject. I went into this movie not knowing a thing abuot it, so the suprise factor helped.
Believable acting, Levit, Kendrick and even Rogan. Although it has to be said as with Emma Stone in The Help, Anna Kendrick was waaaaaay to pretty to play a gawkish medic chick (medics girls are 99% ugly as sin, take it from me, though perhaps Kendrick wasnt supposed to be a doctor, more a therapist?).
Believable settings and situations too, but with perhaps too many healthcare professionals depicted as lacking patience - pallative care staff are easily the most understanding in my experience. What I DID like is the way that the LESS knowledgeable doctor (Kendrick) was portrayed as more effective than the rambling but know-it-all older male doctor who preceded her - personality/character is far more important in medical staff than the ability to reel off facts (obviously you need a balance of both to do the job).
Perhaps the loss of weight in chemo treatment wasnt so accurately portrayed, but hey, Levitt isnt trying to do a De Niro.
A mix of puerile and snappy jokes kept the mood light enough to watch, but never got too heavy, so they never watered down the difficult direction that the movie was obliged to follow. A just right mix, I thought - a gentle romcom but not a Seth Rogan laugh-a-minute riot as you might have been expecting.
oh, I mentioned THE HELP again because I snuck in to watch that again after this movie! I do love that movie, and plus I cant resist a bit of 'The Stone', and I dont mean Sharon.
