Harry Brown
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1289406/
Set in modern-day Britain, HARRY BROWN follows one man’s (Sir Michael Caine) journey through a chaotic world where drugs are the currency of the day and guns run the streets. A modest law-abiding citizen, Harry Brown is a retired Marine and a widower who lives alone on a depressed housing estate. His only company is his best friend Leonard (David Bradley). When Leonard is murdered by a gang of thugs, Harry feels compelled to act and is forced to dispense his own brand of justice. As he bids to clean up the run-down estate where he lives, his actions bring him into conflict with the police, led by investigating officer DCI Frampton (Emily Mortimer) and Charlie Creed-Miles.
Please note it clashes with Taking Woodstock!

Re: Harry Brown
Saw clips of this film at Movie-Con, a rather dark opening, a sequence in which Michael Caine gets weaponed up in a seedy area, and him taking out some ruffians, besides being unbelievably bleak, it looked like it could be a cracker.
There is a good reason it's an 18 though.

This is the sort of film which my husband will enjoy. Let's hope we get more previews in other locations around the country.

Re: Harry Brown
True - but you know this kind of thing always makes for a good film, especially as it's true to life. In this day and age, I fear it is a case of life imitating art. Or is it the other way round now?? I am looking forward to watching this, I was lucky enough to get a pair of tickets. It's been a while since we got a preview of something gritty with a good central character/actor too!a_person wrote:I just saw the trailer.... Re: Harry Brown
I've got tickets for this but have intentionally not read much about it (I always think it's best to go to the cinema not knowing much about a film and then being surprised). I did however read a piece saying it was just the British Gran Torino. Any thoughts on this?
I think the factual and harsh depictions of life tend to make good, powerful films.
